Malwarebytes won't start with Windows

Recommended Posts

Hi, gang.

I'm a licensed user of Malwarebytes Premium 3.7.1.

Under Settings > Protection tab > Startup Options, I've chosen "Start Malwarebytes at Windows startup."

However, Malwarebytes won't load with Windows unless I manually add a program shortcut to the Windows Start Menu.

Obviously, this isn't a pressing issue, but if I've overlooked a software setting, I'd appreciate it if you would let me know.

Kind thanks,

Brooks

Greetings,

It is likely being caused by some kind of issue with Malwarebytes configuration files.  Sometimes they become corrupted during upgrade/install so lets see if a quick over the top install of the latest build corrects the issue and go from there.  Please download and install the latest version over the top of your existing installation from here and then reboot if prompted to complete the upgrade process.  Once that's done, go ahead and restart your machine and let it fully load to the desktop (including Malwarebytes, assuming it loads) a couple of times just to make sure it is now working properly.

If it still fails to startup without the START menu shortcut being present please let us know.

Thanks

Thanks, Xauma95. I checked for hidden tray icons, and also Task Manager. MB isn't loading.

LiquidTension, before I proceed with the post #2 drill, here's an interim follow-up. Thanks, and I'll be back.

---------------------------

Dispatch from the front lines:

After reinstalling Malwarebytes over my existing installation, the program is loading at Windows startup, but infrequently—once or twice every ten startups, would be my guess. The rest of the time, no cigar.

I recently migrated to Windows 10 on a new computer. Is it possible Malwarebytes is getting mugged by Windows Defender? I didn't run Windows Defender on Win 7, but am running it now on Win 10.

Evr yr hmbl, etc.,

B.

The problem could be due to fast startup as mentioned above.  More info, including instructions on how to disable it can be found here as well as here.

Basically it's a new feature in Windows 10 and 8/8.1 that has been known to cause issues with Malwarebytes as well as many other programs.  Disabling it shouldn't slow down your system startup times too much if you have an SSD, and I'd recommend disabling it either way for the sake of stability as it's been known to cause issues with many programs and drivers/devices, not just Malwarebytes.

To all here, huge thanks for your help.

My apologies for the slow response. I've been without an Internet connection since December(!), and at the mercy of Starbucks and the library.

Today—finally—I'm back up and running.

Fast Start was the problem! I've disabled it, and now Malwarebytes loads first time, every time. Exile360, thank you very much for the instruction links.

Again, I appreciate everyone's help and patience.

Wishing you all well!

Brooks
