I think my computer is infected

Recommended Posts

I was told by a computer support guy that while he was trying to install drivers for a new device that I recently purchased (Garmin Edge 520 Plus) that he couldn't b/c my computer contained malicious files that was preventing the install process and offered to clean my computer for a one time fee of $100.  I did not take him up and not sure if I am infected or not but you guys have helped me in past so I am back.  Thank you

Bill

Hello @barkeater and :welcome:

Hi Bill,

I don't see any obvious signs of an infection in the logs. I would recommend you uninstall Bonjour from Control Panel, Programs, Add/Remove as it's not really needed and is having multiple errors.

Then run the following fix. It will remove temporary files from the system, then run a couple of commands to ensure that all the Windows operating system files are valid and not corrupted. Then it will run a disk check on reboot to make sure the hard drive integrity is good.

The commands may take up to 30 minutes to complete so be patient and let them complete. Once done it should reboot or ask you to reboot. Then it will run the disk check. Once back in it should complete the log that you can then post back for me to review.

Please download the attached fixlist.txt file and save it to the Desktop.
NOTE. It's important that both files, FRST or FRST64 and fixlist.txt are in the same location or the fix will not work.

NOTICE: This script was written specifically for this user, for use on this particular machine. Running this on another machine may cause damage to your operating system.

Run FRST or FRST64 and press the Fix button just once and wait.
If the tool needs a restart please make sure you let the system restart normally and let the tool complete its run after restart.
The tool will make a log on the Desktop (Fixlog.txt). Please attach or post it to your next reply.

Note: If the tool warned you about an outdated version please download and run the updated version.

Thanks

Ron
