I'm currently running both Avira Antivirus and Malwarebytes.

Since yesterday Avira is finding & placing in quarantine a trojan that it finds with an information:
TR/Dropper.gen [trojan] detected in file
C:\Users\HUBSON\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\INetCache\IE\ZGIS1VOX\Launcher_08[1].exe
TR/Dropper.gen [trojan] detected in file
C:\Users\HUBSON\AppData\Roaming\Launcher_08.exe
The trojan tries regularly to activate itself but each time Avira blocks it.

After getting this warning i immediately launched Malwarebytes to find and remove the source of the trojan but the software finds nothing. I made sure both the software & database are up to date, but I'm still getting no hits during the scan.

At the same time Avira keeps blocking the trojan, and when starting Windows I'm getting some short graphical gliches, and i can see a command box activating itself, and immidiately minimizing & hiding itself.
I'm also sometimes having trouble shutting down the PC.

Both logs attached. I'm kinda lost what my next step can be, possibly a system drive format.

Hello @Mr_Vandal and welcome to Malwarebytes

My guess is it's probably a false positive, but please run the following and we'll double-check

Please run the following steps and post back the logs as an attachment when ready.

STEP 01

  • If you're already running Malwarebytes 3 then open Malwarebytes and check for updates. Then click on the Scan tab and select Threat Scan and click on Start Scan button.
  • If you don't have Malwarebytes 3 installed yet please download it from here and install it.
  • Once installed then open Malwarebytes and check for updates. Then click on the Scan tab and select Threat Scan and click on Start Scan button.
  • Once the scan is completed click on the Export Summary button and save the file as a Text file to your desktop or other location you can find, and attach that log on your next reply.
  • If Malwarebytes won't run then please skip to the next step and let me know on your next reply.

STEP 02

Please download AdwCleaner by Malwarebytes and save the file to your Desktop.

  • Right-click on the program and select RunAsAdmin.jpg Run as Administrator to start the tool.
  • Accept the Terms of use.
  • Wait until the database is updated.
  • Click Scan Now.
  • When finished, please click Clean & Repair.
  • Your PC should reboot now if any items were found.
  • After reboot, a log file will be opened. Copy its content into your next reply.

RESTART THE COMPUTER Before running Step 3

STEP 03
Please download the Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your desktop.

Note: You need to run the version compatible with your system. You can check here if you're not sure if your computer is 32-bit or 64-bit

  • Double-click to run it. When the tool opens, click Yes to disclaimer.
  • Press the Scan button.
  • It will make a log (FRST.txt) in the same directory the tool is run. Please attach it to your reply.
  • The first time the tool is run, it also makes another log (Addition.txt). If you've, run the tool before you need to place a check mark here.
  • Please attach the Additions.txt log to your reply as well.

Thanks

Ron

Hi. I'm afraid it aint a false positive since I see the same warning about those two specific files from other posts.

Also since Avira picked up that threat the issues the issues I see are consisntent and new to the system:

-graphical glitches on system startup
-a command box on system startup that hides itself
-the system is busy for 10sec on start
-sometimes when ordered to close, the system closes all the apps, turns off the monitor, but after 10sec it turns it back on and the only way to turn the PC off is manually via the button.

All files attached, found nothing, but durng the process Avira again blocked the two launcher_08 files.

Please download the attached fixlist.txt file and save it to the Desktop.
NOTE. It's important that both files, FRST or FRST64 and fixlist.txt are in the same location or the fix will not work.

NOTICE: This script was written specifically for this user, for use on this particular machine. Running this on another machine may cause damage to your operating system.

Run FRST or FRST64 and press the Fix button just once and wait.
If the tool needs a restart please make sure you let the system restart normally and let the tool complete its run after restart.
The tool will make a log on the Desktop (Fixlog.txt). Please attach or post it to your next reply.

Note: If the tool warned you about an outdated version please download and run the updated version.

Thanks

Ron

Ok will go point by point.

1. I've implemented the fix. After the restart the only issue i've noticed still around was the graphical glitch on windows startup. I've let the PC run for 2 hours and Avira didn't pick up anything. Attaching the fixlog from that moment

2. Later I've started the PC again, and just to be sure launched Malwarbytes + database update. This time the software detected a Bitcoin miner. I've attached the threat scan from that moment, and both files from the FRST. I've let the PC run for some more time, Avira and Malware scans didn't pick up anything.

I didn't install any new software or download anything during that time.

Great logs look pretty good. You do have an older x86 version of WinRAR on the system and you have an x64 version of Windows. You may want to consider uninstalling the old one and updating to the latest x64 version or looking at 7-Zip

Otherwise, you should be all set. Take care and stay safe out there.
