AdwCleaner won't run

Recommended Posts

I have a PC with Windows 7 Home edition, 64-bit.  My browser is Chrome.  I downloaded AdwCleaner from the Malwarebytes site.  Clicked on .exe, a window opens asking if I want to Run.  Clicked on Run, and nothing happens.  Went to Windows Explorer and opened the Downloads file.  The AdwCleaner.exe is there.  Clicked on open, same thing.  Clicked on Run as Administrator, same thing.  Booted PC in Safe Mode, went to Downloads, same results.  Nothing happens.  Redownloaded AdwCleaner   Same negative results.  Any suggestions?

Greetings,

Please try running Malwarebytes Anti-Rootkit to see if it is able to run and have it scan your system and remove anything it finds then restart the system if prompted to complete the removal process.  If that fails to resolve the issue then please try downloading and installing the latest version of Malwarebytes 3 from here and have it scan your system and remove anything found, again restarting the system to complete the removal process if prompted to do so.

If neither of those tools would run then please try following the instructions in this topic to run the special build of Malwarebytes Anti-Rootkit to see if it will run and remove anything it finds, likewise restarting your system if prompted to complete the removal process.

Once all of that is done, if the issue still persists then please read and follow the instructions in this topic and create a new thread in the malware removal area including the requested logs and info by clicking here and one of our malware removal specialists will assist you as soon as one becomes available to help you to clear the system of any threats which should resolve the problem with ADWCleaner.

Good luck, and please let us know if there's anything else we might assist you with.

Thanks

Thanks exile360.  After trying everything in your first paragraph, I also reset Chrome to default settings.   Redownloaded  ADWCleaner, and it now works fine.  I also downloaded and ran Zemana AntiMalware.  It picked up on eight PUP's the Malwarebytes products did not.
