"McAfee" adware

Recommended Posts

Recently both my desktop (Windows 8) and laptop (Windows 10) got infected with some adware just about simultaneously.  This adware pops up alerts of various forms (not in a browser but on the screen itself) claiming that your McAfee subscription has expired.  I'm using Norton provided free by my ISP and have not installed McAfee on either of these machines.  A bunch of "McAfee" processes are running on my machine.  I can't stop the processes via task manager, and I can't delete any related files.  The system claims I don't have permission to delete them though I am logged in as an administrator.

Any input from folks who've seen this and know of some fixes would be great.  Malwarebytes does not detect this as malicious.
