Web, malware and ransomware protection do not work - Win10 Insider 18323

Recommended Posts

I have installed Windows 10 Build 18232.1000 (19H1_release_190119-1759) and the following Features in Malwarebytes Premium do not work anymore:

- web protection

- malware protection

- ransomware protection

It is not possible to activate theses features anymore, I get the follwing error message (translated from German, see attachment):

"Malwarebytes cannot load the anti-rootkit-DDA-driver.

This error might be caused by a rootkit activity. We recommend a reset so that

Malwarebytes can try to install the driver.

Do you want to proceed a restart now ? "

I´ve done a restart but without success, I get the same error message after restart.

Second, I´ve tried to repair Malwarebytes Premium with the support tool, but that also does not change the situation.

Finally, I have deinstalled Malwarebytes Premium completely and I have reinstalled it, but that also does not help.

Facit: I am sure that there is no rootkit activity on my PC, and the error Comes from the new Windows 10 Version.

So, the current Version of Malwarebytes Premium does not seem to be compatible with the coming Windows 10 19H1.

How can this Problem be fixed besides the alternative to go back to the previous Windows 10 build ?

Any help is strongly recommended

Greetings,

This is a known issue with the latest Insider Preview build of Windows 10.  Unfortunately the only known workaround at this time is to revert to the previous build of Windows 10.  Malwarebytes does not officially support any beta or pre-release operating systems so I don't expect the issue to be resolved until build 18232 is released/goes RTM, assuming Microsoft does not correct the problem before then (this issue has also been reported directly to Microsoft by many Malwarebytes users).

The root cause of the issue is unknown at this time, but my own personal hypothesis is that Microsoft made some kind of change or added some kind of new restriction to how drivers may be loaded and this is preventing Malwarebytes from installing and loading its various drivers as it normally would (it normally installs and activates/loads its protection drivers upon installation/each time Malwarebytes starts, and it loads the rootkit scanning driver when a scan is initiated just before the scan starts).

Hi exile360,

thank you very much for your post.

I am not surprised to hear that there is a known issue with preview builds of Windows 10, as there are changes going on in which

cause trouble with drivers and programs which have been working ok in previous releases.

I am not sure yet how I will solve this problem, but my recommendation to other users is not to participate in Windows 10 insider program.

  • tetonbob changed the title to Web, malware and ransomware protection do not work - Win10 Insider Preview

Dear all,

I´ve just installed the new Windows 10 build 18329.19h1_release.190129-1504 and -

believe it or not- Malwarebytes Premium is working without problems again and loads all protection features properly.

That´s good news.

Hi @andy_f   Thank you for this information.  That fits with what some others also report about the Preview Build 18329.  That build was just made available afternoon of Friday Feb 1.

Cheers,
