Getting rid of the "add web exclusion" line item

Recommended Posts

Team MWB:

I'm wondering if there is a way to get rid of the "Add Web Exclusion for....." line item on the menu that pops up when you right click the MWB icon in the taskbar. I have found that whatever item was detected most recently (even if it is weeks or more beforehand) stays there indefinitely. The only way I have found to get rid of that line item is to add the web exclusion and then remove it using the application.

Is there something else that I am missing, or a way to turn off this option so that whatever item is blocked is not routinely added to this menu?

Thanks for your consideration of this topic.

I believe that as long as Malwarebytes is running during the same Windows session the most recent entry will continue to be displayed.  You might be able to work around it either by restarting your computer or by quitting Malwarebytes and launching it again (right-click the Malwarebytes tray icon and select Quit Malwarebytes then launch it again via the desktop or START menu shortcut).

Thanks. Seems like more trouble than its worth. Might be worth passing along to the devs allowing an option to clear the popup without going through this process... something like "always block......."

The expected behaviour currently is to only clear the item from the menu when the main Malwarebytes service (MBAMService) is restarted. If the item persists over a reboot, it might be because you're experiencing repeat/consistent blocks involving the same IP address/domain - this is something we can investigate if the requested log file in post #2 is provided.

Thank you for the feedback. It will be passed onto the development team.

Also, please make certain that fast startup is disabled, otherwise that could also potentially cause this behavior as it may be keeping the service in memory since it prevents the system from fully shutting down.  You can find out more and find instructions on how to disable fast startup here and here.  This feature has been known to cause issues with Malwarebytes as well as many other programs as well as some hardware drivers due to Microsoft's implementation of the feature.
