Greetings,

I'm sorry that you've been affected by this issue, but hopefully the team will be able to figure out the problem and get it corrected soon.  In the meantime, it may be helpful if you were able to provide some diagnostic logs so that they may analyze them to see if your system shares any commonalities with other systems showing these symptoms.  If you would like to help, then please do the following:

  1. Download and run the Malwarebytes Support Tool
  2. Accept the EULA and click Advanced tab on the left (not Start Repair)
  3. Click the Gather Logs button, and once it completes, attach the zip file it creates on your desktop to your next reply

They have also been requesting more specialized diagnostics from users affected by this issue so if you are willing and able, please also follow the instructions in this post to provide the logs requested there.

Once you've gathered the logs, please attach them to your next reply.

Thanks

Hi everyone,

In addition to the troubleshooting logs mentioned by exile360 (here), it would be a great help if you could provide the following information:

What network adapters are present on the affected machine?

  • Press the Windows Key + R on your keyboard at the same time. Type devmgmt.msc and click OK.
  • Expand Network adapters.

Is the KB4471318 Windows Update installed on the affected machine?

  • Press the Windows Key + R on your keyboard at the same time. Type cmd and click OK.
  • Copy systeminfo | findstr KB4471318 and paste (right-click the window + Paste) into the Command Prompt window.
  • Press Enter.
  • If KB4471318 is printed back to the line below, the update is installed. If the line below is empty, the update is not installed.

For those willing, it would helpful to identify/rule out KB4471318 as the culprit by temporarily uninstalling the update from the machine. Instructions on how to so can be found below. Please let us know if this has any impact on the freezing/lock ups. Thank you!

  • Click the Windows Start 29Fou9c.jpg button. Type CMD in the search bar, right-click CMD and click AVOiBNU.jpg Run as administrator.
  • Copy and paste (right-click the Window + Paste) the following into the Command Prompt. Press Enter on your keyboard.

    wusa /uninstall /KB:4471318

  • A Windows Update Standalone Installer window will appear and search for the update. You will either receive a message that states the update is not installed or be prompted to uninstall the update. If prompted to uninstall, please do so. When prompted to restart, please consent.
  • After the restart, please monitor the computer and check if you continue to experience the freezing/lock ups.

I started the following thread on Dec. 6, predating any suspect Windows updates, so I'm pretty sure that's a red herring.

https://forums.malwarebytes.com/topic/240242-component-update-10508-issue/

Win 7 Ultimate x64 SP1, recently only taking monthly 'Security Only' updates from catalog, KB4471318 NOT installed

Avast Premier (current)

Intel(R) 82579V Gigabit Network Connection

TAP-Windows Adapter V9

VirtualBox Host-Only Ethernet Adapter

As I can readily repro either issue I detail in my thread, I'm willing to collect 'PSList' info for both (later today) if you are interested.
