2 things I'm observing

1.  When I open (C:) drive I see the Program Files directory but I don't see any *installation data directory* such as *c:\ProgramData\AVAST Software \Avast*

2.  When I open the Program Files directory in (C:) drive I do see AVAST Software directory but it indicates "Date modified" "5/4/2018 5:32 PM".

I only recently, about 1 to 2 months ago, replaced free *Avira Antivirus* with free *Avast Antivirus*.

It just seems a little bit strange that the Avast Software date modified is 5/4/2018, 7 months ago.

In order to see certain folder locations, you have to enable the setting to show it. Microsoft by default hides that so that users don't delete files or folders by accident they shouldn't need to look at in general.

However, in the case of doing computer work or diagnostic work you often need to see those files and folders.

Windows 7, 8, and 10 - Show Hidden Files and Folders

Let's do the following first. Sorry for the delay got buried with some other work.

Let me get a new set of FRST logs. Make sure you place a check mark on the Additions.txt checkbox and attach both new logs on your next reply.

Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your desktop.

Note: You need to run the version compatible with your system.
You can check here if you're not sure if your computer is 32-bit or 64-bit

  • Double-click to run it. When the tool opens click Yes to the disclaimer.
  • Press Scan button.
  • It will make a log (FRST.txt) in the same directory the tool is run. Please attach it to your reply.
  • The first time the tool is run, it also makes another log (Addition.txt). Please attach it to your reply as well.

Thank you

Ron

This program here can be very dangerous to your computer especially since Microsoft no longer supports exploit updates on Windows 8. I would highly recommend you discontinue use of this program if you value your data and computer.

BitTorrent (HKU\S-1-5-21-1787851555-3533030999-402119898-1002\...\BitTorrent) (Version: 7.9.3.40299 - BitTorrent Inc.)

Please download the attached fixlist.txt file and save it to the Desktop.
NOTE. It's important that both files, FRST or FRST64 and fixlist.txt are in the same location or the fix will not work.

NOTICE: This script was written specifically for this user, for use on this particular machine. Running this on another machine may cause damage to your operating system.

Run FRST or FRST64 and press the Fix button just once and wait.
If the tool needs a restart please make sure you let the system restart normally and let the tool complete its run after restart.
The tool will make a log on the Desktop (Fixlog.txt). Please attach or post it to your next reply.

Note: If the tool warned you about an outdated version please download and run the updated version.

fixlist.txt

NOTE: This will run the Windows check and repair programs SFC and DISM - this may take up to 20 or 30 minutes for each program to run. Please let them run and do not stop them from running. Once all is done please post back the Fixlog.txt file

Thanks,

Ron

Yes, running P2P software basically adds a portal directly into your computer via a sharing mechanism that can potentially bypass normal security software.

Yes, you can remove before running the fix.

Thanks

I'm going to be heading to bed soon myself. we'll need to pick up again tomorrow.
