System super slow and randomly freezing up to blue screen

By resongon, Monday at 09:54 PM in Resolved Malware Removal Logs

This above was the topic I made on Monday 11/26 and I was helped here.

The symptoms temporarily resolved and the topic closed but now symptoms are definitely back though maybe not quite as severe.

The difference now is that I haven't seen the BSOD but web pages are taking forever to load freezing up again, and crashing.

Also freezing when browser is closed and I go to sign out.

Please help again?

Hi there @resongon sorry to hear.

Okay, please scan and get me all new logs again so we can see what's going on.

Please run the following steps and post back the logs as an attachment when ready.

STEP 01

  • If you're already running Malwarebytes 3 then open Malwarebytes and check for updates. Then click on the Scan tab and select Threat Scan and click on Start Scan button.
  • If you don't have Malwarebytes 3 installed yet please download it from here and install it.
  • Once installed then open Malwarebytes and check for updates. Then click on the Scan tab and select Threat Scan and click on Start Scan button.
  • Once the scan is completed click on the Export Summary button and save the file as a Text file to your desktop or other location you can find, and attach that log on your next reply.
  • If Malwarebytes won't run then please skip to the next step and let me know on your next reply.

STEP 02

Please download AdwCleaner by Malwarebytes and save the file to your Desktop.

  • Right-click on the program and select RunAsAdmin.jpg Run as Administrator to start the tool.
  • Accept the Terms of use.
  • Wait until the database is updated.
  • Click Scan Now.
  • When finished, please click Clean & Repair.
  • Your PC should reboot now if any items were found.
  • After reboot, a log file will be opened. Copy its content into your next reply.

RESTART THE COMPUTER Before running Step 3

STEP 03
Please download the Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your desktop.

Note: You need to run the version compatible with your system. You can check here if you're not sure if your computer is 32-bit or 64-bit

  • Double-click to run it. When the tool opens, click Yes to disclaimer.
  • Press the Scan button.
  • It will make a log (FRST.txt) in the same directory the tool is run. Please attach it to your reply.
  • The first time the tool is run, it also makes another log (Addition.txt). If you've, run the tool before you need to place a check mark here.
  • Please attach the Additions.txt log to your reply as well.

Thanks

Ron

I was poking around in Avast trying to figure out how to temporarily fully disable and I ended up accidentally doing some kind of repair-update-scan to it.

I don't know what I did but I took pictures of the screen throughout the event?  I think I may have changed Avast somehow?  Please advise?

Yes, Control Panel says on Defender that "This app has been turned off and isn't monitoring your computer."
Now I'm trying to figure out how to turn it back on.

In order to uninstall Avira I need to turn defender back on.  How do I turn Windows Defender back on in Windows 8.1?

I watched the video, thank you.

The situation in the video is similar to mine bit still different.

The video has 1 antivirus besides Windows Defender I have 2.

I tried following the directions from the video step by step but it's not working.

I have both Avast and Mawarebytes.

I put Avast into "permanent snooze" mode.

I turned Malwarebytes off.

The "Turn on" button for Windows Defender in the Action Center remains disabled seemingly no matter what I do.

I've tried everything I can think of but it won't let me turn Windows Defender on.

Please see attached photos.

Sorry for the complications.

Please advise.

What am I doing wrong?

Okay, well the computer is not infected so let's go ahead and uninstall Avast for now and reboot.

Then after the reboot, let's see if we can get Windows Defender working. According to some articles Windows Defender on Windows 8 is different than on Windows 10 and it won't run period with another antivirus installed (though that other youtube article sure made it look like it can)

Please remove Avast, reboot. Then see if you can enable defender and let me know.
