exclusions txt

Hi, i have the latest malwarebytes on my pc, and i noticed there was a exclusions list in form of a notepad txt on my malwarerebytes folder and on there, there were many entries, for example -

I googled some of those entries and they are entries for rootkits, trojans, viruses, but why would they be inside my exclusions list so malwarebytes wont detect them, im confused about this and any help would be great ?

Since I do not work for Malwarebytes, I can not tell you exactly why there are there, however I checked my file located in C:\ProgramData\Malwarebytes\MBAMService\exclusions.txt and found the same listing you have and many more... I would not mess with that file at it appears to be normal.

Yes, that file is a normal part of the Malwarebytes installation.  I don't recall exactly what its purpose is, but I suspect it has to do with common whitelisted files that are known to be safe and should never be detected as threats.

By the way, I did find this Pastebin entry which appears to list the same entries so it could be related (perhaps it was shared there by one of the Malwarebytes Researchers/Developers, or perhaps it's a commonly used set of exclusions for several security apps or something).

Glad to hear it's a normal file, thanks a lot. I have another question, im running windows 7 ultimate x64 and is it ok to have both malwarebytes and windows defender running at the same time, or should i disable windows defender real time protection ?

You can use both at the same time without an issue.

Yep, it's fine to run both.  While Malwarebytes does provide a full layered approach to protection which should be sufficient on its own, the program always has been and still remains designed to be capable of running in real-time with other security products, including other anti-malware/antivirus solutions like Windows Defender (or even Microsoft Security Essentials if you wanted the full AV functionality of Microsoft's app on Windows 7 rather than just the basic spyware/PUP/Trojan protection provided by Defender; MSE is much like the more full featured tool that ships with Windows 8 and Windows 10 and may be downloaded from this page, just grab the version for your preferred language and the version of Windows you're running (i.e. 64-bit)).

Thanks, you ben very helpful, i wanted to ask another question, so i can get to understand malwarebytes a little better, when i did a disc cleaner, it came up with a bunch of malwarebytes files called.json and bak,   my disk cleaner came out with the results to clean the json bak files, is this recommended ? i uploaded a picture to explain it better.

 

Any ideas om what this means ?

Your quite welcome, those are config files for Malwarebytes and I would not mess with them, I would let them be, they really don't take up much space at all.
