Malwarebytes stuck at Check for Updates

Recommended Posts

Hey all! So I think I may have a virus. My computer's been running a bit slow, stuttering and the such so I decided to run Malwarebytes after about 6 months. ( I know, my fault. ) It was an old version so I had to update to 3.6.1 . Once I did that, the threat scan is stuck at Check for Updates. I've tried running the mbs support file and repaired it, but it still seems to be stuck. I ran rkill and it wouldn't work  because Rkill would be stuck at 'checking for processes to terminate' , and then I tried a clean uninstall with the mb-clean file about 3-4 times but it still is stuck at updating? Avast runs fine, but I don't think it finds the problem as good as Malwarebytes does because my computer is still running a bit slow, and there are ALOT of processes. I've tried the alternatives to Rkill as well so that is out of the factor.

I've put the support results on the bottom

Greetings,

Please try running the special build of Malwarebytes Anti-Rootkit located in this topic to see if it is able to run, and if so, have it remove any threats it detects, then reboot if prompted to complete the threat removal process.  It would also be a good idea to try and run ADWCleaner and have it remove anything it finds, again rebooting if prompted to remove any detected items.

Once that's done, if Malwarebytes still won't run or if the system is still having problems/seems slow etc. then please read and follow the instructions found in this topic then create a new topic in the malware removal area including the logs you created per the instructions in that link by clicking here and one of our malware removal specialists will assist you in checking your system for any remaining threats and guide you in removing them as soon as one is available.

Good luck and I hope you are able to get your system cleaned up and running normally soon.  Please let us know if there's anything else we can do to assist you.

Thanks
