Malwarebytes causing Blue Screen - mbam.sys

Recommended Posts

Good Morning,

As soon as I open Malwarebytes I get BSOD and Driver Unloaded Without Canceling Pending Operations MBAM.SYS. I have been using Malwarebytes for years and this problem started yesterday. I can use my laptop just fine as long as I do not open my Malwarebytes Premium that I paid for.

I have tried everything to fix this problem, cleaned registry, reinstalled several times after using Revo Uninstall,  Download Malwarebytes Support Tool and contacted Microsoft without any success.

In advance I Thank You for Your Time and Efforts... Richard Bryan

I would like to suggest if you use any other Anti-Virus or Anti-Malware programs, you might want to uninstall, for now temporarily. Avast is known to cause issues with MBAM. And I don't know if this applies to you or not, but if a person has too many anti-vrus programs running there can be issues. Such as Zemana AntiMalware, Emsisoft, and others. Somtimes utilities such as CCleaner, iolo System Mechanic can even interfere. I would start from scratch, leave MBAM, but uninstall the biggest culprit, such as if you have Avast, first...Just a suggestion is all. Other help will be better I'm sure.

Thank You for your response but I do not want nor agree that I have to get rid of my paid Avast account. This problem just started with an update and Malwarebytes Premium is not an Anti Virus Program so it should work with Avast as it has for many years.

I am trying the following:

Add the file paths listed in this section to the other antivirus software as exclusions.  The other antivirus software may refer to exclusions as exceptions or ignore list entries.  For instructions on adding exclusions to another antivirus, contact the antivirus vendor.

C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes\Anti-Malware\MbamPt.exe

C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes\Anti-Malware\mbam.exe

C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes\Anti-Malware\assistant.exe

C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes\Anti-Malware\MBAMWsc.exe

C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes\Anti-Malware\mbamtray.exe

C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes\Anti-Malware\MBAMService.exe

C:\Windows\System32\drivers\mbam.sys

C:\Windows\System32\drivers\mwac.sys

C:\Windows\System32\drivers\mbamswissarmy.sys

C:\Windows\System32\drivers\mbamchameleon.sys

C:\Windows\System32\drivers\farflt.sys

C:\Windows\System32\drivers\mbae64.sys

C:\Windows\System32\drivers\mbae.sys

Hopefully this will resolve the conflict. I also disabled Site Protection within Avast.

It is Malwarebytes to resolve this since I am a paid customer and this all started with their update. Plus ransomware protection has not been starting for weeks and now whenever I open Malwarebytes Premium I immediately get BSOD.

Thanks for this report. @plb4333 recommended removing Avast because it seems one of their recent updates started causing blue screen issues when installed alongside Malwarebytes. If possible, can you try removing Avast just temporarily to see if that solves the issue for you? If it does, then re-install the latest version of Avast, as this has worked for most of the people we've talked to with this issue.
