More information: I may have been installing a new version but maybe shut my computer off instead of restarting when prompted.

If you interrupt the installation like this is there a possibility Malwarebytes cannot he found when the .exe is searched for?

@lock The above information may be helpful. I do not think I have been to any high risk sites either. Regardless I would think that Malwarebytes would have safeguards against applications or malicious software that would try to remove it?

Malwarebytes has a "self protection module in Settings /Protection, so in theory soul be self protected to removal, bu who knows?

I would run the uninstall tool provided by Malwarebytes (MBAM clean.exe)  from here:

And reinstall it from scratch.

@dcollins I wish that was the case, between my small regular gaming group, 7 of us use MWBAM, 4 paid. That is now down to 2 paid (excluding me) due to issues though out 2018. One of them is not renewing, so it's technically 1 + me. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Do we have any ETA on the notification fix and when the rework will be in place so you can suppress scans which didn't find any problems and only see alerts for scans which did detect something?

As I mentioned, some users do get stuck in a situation where Malwarebytes doesn't upgrade properly, which it sounds like you and your gaming group are a part of. Of note, logs from your systems may help as there are probably some similarities between your machines that might point out what's going on.

As for the notifications, no update at this time unfortunately.

Hello Nate-Dogg:

Sounds like you are referring to the tray Notification for "no threats detected".

You can suppress that prompt by switching the Notifications setting off. This Functionality was released last August, versions newer than 3.5.1 with component package 1.0.421 carry it.

It should work as you describe but please let us know if it doesn't seem to.

Thank you so much.

@Erix I wish I could! Notifications are COMPLETELY broken in MWBAM. (Version 3.5.1.2522, component package: 1.0.374)

I reported this back in March with the below video, please see the upload date for reference.

Also, to add to this. If I turn off "Notify me when full version updates are available" I STILL get the notification.

Currently I'm receiving notifications about my scans and updates every few hours. I will update when I AM ready, and when the program is STABLE.

  1. Open Malwarebytes
  2. Navigate to Settings -> Application
  3. Click Install Application Updates (it might say Check for Application Updates on your version)

Do you have automatic updates disabled? Because you're quite a few versions behind (4 or 5 if I'm remembering our release numbers correctly) so it makes me think you're updates aren't working properly. If clicking this button doesn't find any updates, please use the instructions below to gather some logs so we can find out why you're not getting updates properly.

I'm actually not sure what happened here, but it looks like your installation got corrupted somehow. I'll dig through the logs to try and find out what happened, but for now, can you please use the Support Tool you used to gather logs, and instead click the Clean button on the advanced page? This will remove the currently installed version of Malwarebytes, then install the latest version.

Thanks for the reply @dcollins

I imagine this happened when Malwarebytes deleted itself and I had to reinstall, that maybe part of the installation still existed.

I'll have to try this tomorrow now... I deactivated my license, then ran the support tool and saw it would back up premium key info so I attempted to reactivate my old key on my installation and it's refusing to accept it.

I actually just decided to do the clean anyway, after restarting I didn't get the option to reinstall so I just went to the website and re-downloaded Malwarebytes my license key activated this time and I've just done one test threat scan with notifications off and it didn't pop-up to say "No threats detected". I'm actually so over the moon.

Malwarebytes version: 3.6.1.2711

Component package version: 1.0.463  <- Yay (or hopefully that's the latest?)

Update package version: 1.0.7349

Thanks @dcollins
