Scan seems stuck at OSX.Vsearch

Recommended Posts

My Mac has started becoming extremely slow and sluggish out of nowhere so I wanted to scan for malware.

I found Malwarebytes, installed, and ran a scan but it seems to have become stuck on the very first item. It's now 30+ minutes in and not moving.

I'm on High Sierra 10.13.6

VSearch is one of the more complex things to find that we scan for. Still, 31 minutes is excessive. This may mean that you have a LOT of large files in locations that need to be scanned for components of VSearch, or it may mean that you have a problem with your hard drive.

Generally speaking, unless you have a single process that is really out of control and using all your computer's processing time, having a slow computer is not the result of malware. (Even then, seeing a single out-of-control process doesn't mean it's malware.) This is probably due to something like a corrupt system, a failing hard drive, insufficient hardware resources for the system and software installed, etc, and any of those factors could also cause scanning to be slow in Malwarebytes for Mac.

To solve the problems with your Mac being sluggish, I would not rely on Malwarebytes for a fix, and would recommend contacting Apple support:
