Adware vs Malware KO in round 15?

Recommended Posts

I have 'Adware Master' downloaded from Apple App Store. I've now installed 'MalwareBytes'. The problem is 'Adware Master' says Malwarebytes is adware that needs to be removed and 'MalwareBytes' says Adware Master is Malware that needs to be removed. How do I make these two play nice together?

I can't find an 'Adware Master' on the App Store, did you mean 'AdBlock Master'?

If so, then switch to a more reputable browser ad blocker.

I realize that AdBlock Master has high ratings in the iTunes/App Store, but I strongly suspect those are mostly fake reviews. Take a look at what customers had to say about it at MacUpdate: https://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/57391/adblock-master. There's actually some MalwareBytes feedback contained in one lengthy comment from a couple of my colleagues in this business.

Thank you much for the quick reply. I'm impressed.

I do apologize for my brain damage. Yes, that is it, AdBlock Master (Their other app is Adware Doctor that I apparently tried to combine into one app).

I will check the web link that you've added. I've only just decided to look the MalwareBytes option, downloaded the Free Version and still reading all that it can do. I'd, of course, like to be sure that I have appropriate adware blocking also. I have an iMac, a MacBook Pro and a Gaming PC, so I do like that Malwarebytes offers multi-platform in the upgraded version. Again, I appreciate the quick response.

Best Regards

Just to provide a little more context, there are several ways that AdBlock Master is meeting our PUP (potentially unwanted program) detection criteria. The typical response to detection by Malwarebytes on the part of these kinds of junk programs is to retaliate by detecting Malwarebytes.

Currently, you should be extremely wary of any kind of security software from the Mac App Store. Most of it is junk or scam software, and even the legit stuff is of limited utility due to sandboxing restrictions imposed on all apps available through the App Store.
