System Tray Icon Missing

Recommended Posts

Thank you for taking the time to explain the issue so thoroughly.

As a layman in terms of software, I assumed that since other software I use does not exhibit the same problem with displaying system tray icons, the issue must be with the Malwarebytes software.

I'll continue to run with fast startup disabled as that seems to be a benign work-around for the issue.

Thanks again for your help.

The workaround solution is easy, in order to prevent Malwarebytes from operating just go to your settings and disable Malwarebytes from starting up when the computer is started this way you can turn it on when you need to, until they fix the trey so you can stiop it with that for now the trey is missing

No one is trying to prevent Malwarebytes from running.  This thread is about an issue where Malwarebytes fails to run at startup, so disabling the option for Malwarebytes to run at startup definitely won't help.

That said, yes, if you do not want Malwarebytes to run at startup there is an option to disable it, and Malwarebytes may be terminated at any time by right-clicking the Malwarebytes tray icon and choosing Quit Malwarebytes (you'll need to do this if you don't want Malwarebytes to continue running in the background, even if using it in free mode as an on-demand scanner, otherwise it will continue to run in the tray with its processes in memory).
