Hi,

I have run Malwarebytes on my PC several times over the last month. Each time it says Rogue.AndormedaAv is on the PC. I ask the program to remove iot, it says it is removed. On the next scan, it is there again.

My PC is really acting weird. It take a long time to load pages in Internet Explorer, sometimes they don't load at all.

I hope you can assist me.

I've posted the latest logfiles from Malwarebytes and HijackThis below.

Hi,

The Rogue Andromedia detection is actually a small read error in mbam. It sees the key in the wrong place since it has a problem with the * char in the registry.

Open notepad and copy and paste next present in the quotebox below in it:

(don't forget to copy and paste REGEDIT4)

REGEDIT4

[-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\av]

Save this as fix.reg Choose to save as *all files and place it on your desktop.

It should look like this: reg.gif

Doubleclick on it and when it asks you if you want to merge the contents to the registry, click yes/ok.

I see you have Viewpoint installed...

Viewpoint Manager is considered as foistware instead of malware since it is installed without users approval but doesn't spy or do anything "bad". This will change from what we know in 2006 read this article: http://www.clickz.com/news/article.php/3561546

I suggest you remove the program now. Go to Start > Settings > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and remove the following programs if present.

  • Viewpoint
  • Viewpoint Manager
  • Viewpoint Media Player

Also, please uninstall the Ask Toolbar (may be called the Zonealarm Spyblocker toolbar or something similar here). This toolbar is not recommended.

Also see here: http://www.malwarebytes.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=3143

Let me know in your next reply how things are now.

Hi,

I did the fix.reg repair and ran Malwarebytes. The Rogue.AndromedaAV did not appear, and there were no other malware items found.

There was one Viewpoint program installed, the Viewpoint Media Player. I removed that, also the ZoneAlarm Spyblocker toolbar.

Thank you very much for your help.
