Dyn Updater silently blocked

I just installed the Dyn Updater client from dyndns.org on two pc's.  In both cases they couldn't update until I terminated Malwarebytes.  From the updater logs it's clear that checkip.dyndns.org and checkipv6.dyndns.org are inaccessible when Malwarebytes is running, are accessible when it's not.  However there is nothing in Reports to show that this is happening.

Windows 10 Pro, Malwarebytes Premium Update package, Updates Current.

Any suggestions on how to fix this?

If you haven’t already done so, please run the Malwarebytes Support Tool and then attach the logs in your next reply:

  • Download Malwarebytes Support Tool
  • Once the file is downloaded, open your Downloads folder/location of the downloaded file
  • Double-click mb-support-X.X.X.XXXX.exe to run the program
    • You may be prompted by User Account Control (UAC) to allow changes to be made to your computer. Click Yes to consent.
  • Place a checkmark next to Accept License Agreement and click Next
  • You will be presented with a page stating, "Welcome to the Malwarebytes Support Tool!"
  • Click the Advanced Options link

  • Click the Gather Logs button

  • A progress bar will appear and the program will proceed to gather troubleshooting information from your computer
  • Upon completion, click OK
  • A file named mbst-grab-results.zip will be saved to your Desktop
  • Please attach the file in your next reply. Before submitting your reply, be sure to enable "Notify me of replies" like so:

This is a known issue with the Web Protection component of Malwarebytes on some systems.  Currently the only known workaround besides downgrading to an older release (which would be less secure due to the enhancements to all of Malwarebytes components which have been added since then) is to disable Web Protection when updating the affected application.

Additionally, you may install the Malwarebytes browser extension beta which is currently available for both Chrome (and other Chromium based browsers such as SRWare Iron) and Mozilla Firefox.  It uses the same databases as Web Protection and includes additional capabilities such as signature-less behavior based blocking of tech support scam sites, phishing sites, clickbait links (which frequently point to malware), many ads as well as trackers to protect your privacy.  While it isn't a replacement for Web Protection since it only guards your browser, unlike Web Protection which guards your entire system and every process that runs on it, it will at least allow you to surf the web safely while Web Protection is disabled.  It was also designed to work in tandem with Web Protection, so once you are able to turn Web Protection on again, you can keep the browser extension active to benefit from its additional abilities.
