mbamswissarmy.sys Driver Error Causing Autorepair Loop

Recommended Posts

Hi there admin friends,

I recently updated my infrequently used PC with a new Windows 10 update. Upon immediately doing so, I was stuck in an autorepair loop that I could not, for the life of me, get out of. Within my tinkering, I was able to boot up to see the following BSOD:

"Your PC/Device needs to be repaired

The operating system couldn't be loaded because a critical system driver is missing or contains errors.

Error code: 0xc000007b

Chose one of the options below to address this problem..."

I have a FRST file for you guys to work your magic with!

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

Please download the attached fixlist.txt file and save it to the Desktop.
NOTE. It's important that both files, FRST or FRST64 and fixlist.txt are in the same location or the fix will not work.

NOTICE: This script was written specifically for this user, for use on this particular machine. Running this on another machine may cause damage to your operating system.

Run FRST or FRST64 and press the Fix button just once and wait.
If the tool needs a restart please make sure you let the system restart normally and let the tool complete its run after restart.
The tool will make a log on the Desktop (Fixlog.txt). Please attach or post it to your next reply.

Note: If the tool warned you about an outdated version please download and run the updated version.

Then after restart see if you're able to launch back into Windows Normal Mode.

Hi Ron,

thanks for the help. I really appreciate it! My computer is working 100% now and all it said was something like "sorry, the update did not complete," and I think it even said "undoing changes," but I'm not sure about that.

May I ask how FRST works and how one goes about creating a fixlist, and how the fixlist works?

Thanks again.

Great, glad to hear all is better now.

Were you able to get Malwarebytes installed and working now?

Using FRST and creating fixlist is documented, but one needs to be very careful with it. If you tell it to remove something that should not be removed you might need to reinstall Windows.

It is a tool that is not normally used except in special cases and normally by someone trained in it's use.

Thanks again

To fully remove Malwarebytes please use the following tool. It can also reinstall the product for you if you like.

Please download the Malwarebytes Support Tool and use it to do a Clean Removal and reinstall of Malwarebtyes

  • Download Malwarebytes Support Tool
  • Once the file is downloaded, open your Downloads folder/location of the downloaded file
  • Double-click mb-support-X.X.X.XXXX.exe to run the program
    • You may be prompted by the User Account Control (UAC) to allow changes to be made to your computer. Click Yes to consent.
  • Place a check-mark next to Accept License Agreement and click Next
  • You will be presented with a page stating, "Welcome to the Malwarebytes Support Tool!"
  • Click the Advanced Options link - do not click Get Started

  • Click the CLEAN button

  • A progress bar will appear and the program will proceed to remove Malwarebytes from your computer
  • Upon completion, click OK
  • Follow the onscreen prompts to reboot and reinstall Malwarebytes

Then let me know if you're still having issues getting Malwarebytes to start.
