Dericam IP camera issue

Recommended Posts

I have a Dericam S series Wireless IP camera connected to my system. This week after installing an update to Malwarebytes, the camera would not connect for live viewing or alarm settings. You could still see recorded videos on the SD card on the device. I turned off Web Protection and the camera would connect for live viewing so I know Malwarebytes is blocking live options. I attempted to contact the camera support but they are unclear as to what exclusion I need to turn on. I have added the camera IP address but that did not resolve the issue.

Has anybody had a similar issue with an IP camera and how did you resolve the issue. Thanks

Greetings,

It is likely that this is being caused by a known issue in the most recent Malwarebytes release that is being investigated by the Developers.  They should have a fix in the next release but I have no ETA on when that will be.

That said, it is possible that you might be able to get the camera working without having to disable Web Protection by excluding the camera's main process/executable from Web Protection.  To do this, follow the instructions in this support article under the Exclude an Application that Connects to the Internet section.  If that doesn't work then your only alternative for now would be to leave Web Protection disabled until this issue is fixed by the Developers.

If you do end up having to disable Web Protection then you can supplement the missing Web Protection feature somewhat by installing the Malwarebytes browser extension beta which is currently available for Chrome/Chromium based browsers and Firefox/Mozilla based browsers.  More info on each is available at the following links, including where to download:

Malwarebytes for Chrome Beta
Malwarebytes for Firefox Beta

The browser extension doesn't have the full capabilities of Web Protection as it can only shield your browser, not the entire system/all processes/programs on the system, but it does have some advantages including behavior based/signature-less protection from specific types of malicious websites including tech support scams which have become quite prominent as well as protection from many other threats including malvertisements, phishing sites, scams, some ad and tracking servers and more.  When used alongside Web Protection it actually complements it quite well by integrating the Web Protection block lists/databases into itself to provide more robust defense from web based threats.  But even with Web Protection disabled, it can still do a lot to help keep you secure when browsing online.

This issue should be fixed in our beta that was just released. You can download the beta by going to Settings -> Applications and toggling on the beta option. After a little while, you should get the beta version which is Component Package 1.0.390 and this should hopefully resolve the issue. Please let us know.

If you don't want to try the beta, the full release should be out soon based on feedback from beta users.

I am using Blue iris IP camera software and one of my IP cameras is being blocked by Malwarebytes. As soon as I click on "Quit Malwarebytes" the camera displays in Blue Iris properly. Even when using "Beta Application Updates", the problem has not been fixed. Do you have a working solution?
