Malwarebytes won't open

Recommended Posts

Every time I try to open Malwarebytes it doesn't work. No matter where I install it, it shows up with 'Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item.'. The same thing happens if I run it as an administrator. The permissions don't seem out of the ordinary at all. I've run virus scans on multiple other software and nothing has fixed this issue. it has been happening for a few days, does anybody know how I could fix this?

fixlist.txt

I used FRST, and it applied a fix, but malwarebytes still won't open, so I'm unable to scan with that. I tried to download and open Zemana, however, when trying to set it up, it shows up with this error message. I haven't yet scanned with Sophos, I am about to do that. I have attached the fix log for FRST. I'll reply again with the results from Sophos when they show up. Thanks for your help.

  • Double-click VEW.exe. to start, Vista and Windows 7/8/10 users Right Click and select "Run as Administrator"
  • Under 'Select log to query...check the boxes for both Application and System.
  • Under 'Select type to list... select both Error and Critical.
  • Click the radio button for 'Number of events...Type 15 in the 1 to 20 box.
  • Then click the Run button.
  • Notepad will open with the output log. It will take a couple of minutes to generate the log, please be patient.

Please post the Output log in your next reply.

Let me see those logs in your reply...

Here are the files you asked for. I ran Sophos overnight last night, but it crashed (I think, it just closed all of a sudden without me doing anything) before I could manually extract a log, and now it won't run. I don't know if Sophos saves logs automatically or not, but if they do, I should be able to find it for you as long as I know where to find them. Thanks for all the help.
