Something keeps deleting Malwarebytes

Recommended Posts

I run CCleaner - i doubt it would do that.
Something deleted it a year ago and i couldn't put it back. I tried Chameleon - didn't help.
So i was finally able to reinstall it a few months back - i did nothing different. It worked fine until i looked for it other day and it's completely gone.
I've had a huge folder of pictures go missing too. NO ONE gets on my computer but me.
What could explain this?

I'll venture a guess as to the potential cause of the problem.  There is a known issue with the Malwarebytes installer which, when performing an update/upgrade installation of a new version, it sometimes fails to proceed with the installation of the new version after removing the old/existing one which leaves the system with no installation of Malwarebytes at all.  When this occurs you should be able to just download and reinstall the latest version to get it back.

That said, it doesn't explain the other items disappearing so something else may be going on such as a hacker or some form of malware, a failing drive or some other issue causing the files to be deleted.  Hopefully the logs will illuminate the situation.

From what I can see in the logs, it looks like there was possibly a system restore done earlier this month or perhaps you don't use this computer often? I do see where Malwarebytes was on the machine, but there's no indication of a failed update or anything else going on. Very strange. I do also see the remnants of an older installer on the system so perhaps it was ran awhile ago and the reboot just happened recently so that's why the setup didn't continue.

Luckily, we have fixed most of the installer issues around mid-May, so I would re-install Malwarebytes now and in the future, this should not happen any longer.
