I received a message on my desktop PC today to upgrade to version 3.5.1.2522 which went well.

When I began using my laptop I noticed that it has version 3.2.2.2029 and when I hit the Updates section of the MBAM Dashboard nothing happened.

Why won't it update to 3.5.1 ?

Hello and Welcome back...

Reboot the computer, and once rebooted download the latest and try to install once again to see if it works.

Download the Latest MB3 v3.5.1.2522 CU 1.0.374 from ->>RIGHT HERE<<-

Why is the download from your link labeled  mb3-setup-consumer-3.5.1.2522-1.0.365-1.0.5354.  Is that not the old component package still?

Yes, that's correct.  To my knowledge, at this time the only way to get the latest component update is to use the Install Application Updates button under Settings>Application in Malwarebytes or to wait to be offered it when Malwarebytes is checking for updates (though the latter method is throttled/metered out to users gradually, so there is no guarantee that you'd be offered the new version immediately).

If the problem still persists then please do the following so that we may take a look at your installation and configuration to troubleshoot the issue:

  1. Download and run the Malwarebytes Support Tool
  2. Accept the EULA and click Advanced Options on the main page (not Get Started)
  3. Click the Gather Logs button, and once it completes, attach the zip file it creates on your desktop to your next reply

Thanks

My concern is that one of my computers has been offering me the update for a while so I am not sure if I install it now if I will get the previous component package or the new one?  Back to my original question, it seems odd that Malwarebytes is directing you to update via a download link which apparently still has the old component package.  Can't the new component package be made available for download?

I have messaged members of the team to see if they plan on updating the main download link

No problem, the logs should show us what's going on if it doesn't work.

If you were responding to me, my question was pretty straightforward and I'm not sure why logs would be involved.  Sorry to say but that seems to be always the response even when it isn't close to accurate.

Malwarebytes released a new component package.  The download link still has the old one.  It was suggested to use the "Install Application Updates" button to install instead.  My question was that the old component package was apparently already downloaded to my machine via the normal upgrade process, what will happen if I try to install now?  Would I get the old component package or the new?  to avoid the unknown I would just like to download the new component package, but it isn't available even though Malwarebytes thought they were providing a link for it.

To be honest it should not be this complicated to upgrade a program.  MBAM has had issues going back quite a while, I was one of many who never received the last upgrade via the program.  Never.

I was referring to the issues with the upgrade not installing, not with the installer download link.  If it isn't upgrading through the program properly or isn't offering you the newest version when using the Install Application Updates button then there's likely a problem on the system with the current Malwarebytes installation, and the logs would be the only way for us to diagnose it.  That's the issue I was addressing, not the download link posted by Firefox above.

With regards to the download, since this is a component update, which doesn't use an installer but simply downloads the new components/files through the internal updater built into the software and replacing the older files with the new ones, no installation package is required.  I don't know if they plan to update the installer to include the new component update or not, but at this time they haven't yet which is why it's still the previous version being hosted on the site for the installer.

The download link has been updated now. As for the request for logs, it would show us why your program wasn't automatically downloading.

That being said, after reading over your original description, it sounds like you were clicking the Updates button on the main MB3 dashboard and expecting it to update your application version. That update button only updates your database, to check for a full application update, you need to go Settings -> Application and click the "Install Application Updates" button.

Sorry to say but that was not my issue this time.  The program started notifying me a week or two ago that a new version was available to install.  I did not install due to the issues with the component package.   Once the new component package was issued I was unclear as to how to make sure that is the one that is installed.  Frankly I still am.

@bru component packages are installed silently in the background, you're never prompted to update them. The message you got must have been for the 3.5.1 installer, which was probably the old one. Until you install, there's really no indicator of what version will be installed. The new update will eventually overwrite the old one, but the only way to tell this would be to open the UpdateControllerConfig.json file in C:\ProgramData\Malwarebytes\mbamservice\config and check the "pending_installer_version" path.
