malwarebytes disappeared after update this afternoon

I was notified to update the free version of malwarebytes this afternoon and after it updated and I closed out the computer.  When I got back on a few minutes ago it had totally disappeared from my computer.  It's not pinned to startup (first thing I noticed) not on start menu, when I went to control panel and checked programs not there either.  What happened during this update?  What do I need to do?

If you haven’t already done so, please run the Malwarebytes Support Tool and then attach the logs in your next reply:

NOTE: The tools and the information obtained is safe and not harmful to your privacy or your computer, please allow the programs to run if blocked by your system.

  • Download Malwarebytes Support Tool
  • Once the file is downloaded, open your Downloads folder/location of the downloaded file
  • Double-click mb-support-X.X.X.XXXX.exe to run the program
    • You may be prompted by User Account Control (UAC) to allow changes to be made to your computer. Click Yes to consent.
  • Place a checkmark next to Accept License Agreement and click Next
  • You will be presented with a page stating, "Welcome to the Malwarebytes Support Tool!"
  • Click the Advanced Options link

  • Click the Gather Logs button

  • A progress bar will appear and the program will proceed to gather troubleshooting information from your computer
  • Upon completion, click OK
  • A file named mbst-grab-results.zip will be saved to your Desktop

Greetings,

It sounds like the installer removed the previous version as it should but failed to install the new version once that was completed.  This is due to an issue in the installer that happens on occasion.  If you would, please first start by gathering some logs for our Dev team so that they can take a look and hopefully discover the cause so that they might fix it for future versions:

  1. Download and run the Malwarebytes Support Tool
  2. Accept the EULA and click Advanced Options on the main page (not Get Started)
  3. Click the Gather Logs button, and once it completes, attach the zip file it creates on your desktop to your next reply

Once that is done, you may go ahead and reinstall the software by downloading and installing it from here then install the latest patch that was released in the past few days by opening Malwarebytes and navigating to Settings>Application and clicking the Install Application Updates button then allowing it to download and install the update.

If the update fails to install for some reason or there are any other issues please let us know.
