I really don't know exactly what's going on here - my machine is glacial, and I get lots of Malwarebytes (Premium) warnings of blocked outbound stuff related to Firefox... But clearly something is wrong, as Firefox is working overtime, leading to up to 90% or more of memory being occupied. Please can you advise? Thanks in advance!

Hello @RTV and :welcome:

Please follow the directions on the following page and see if that helps any. I'd also suggest running a full disk check on your drive.

 

From an elevated admin command prompt you can run the following.

 

CHKDSK  C:  /R

 

Press the Y key to allow it to run on restart. Then restart the computer and let it run.
