I have never had problems with malwarebytes in the past but for the last six months I have not been able to use it!
I have no idea what has changed?

I have uninstalled and then installed the software over and over again but the same problem occurs!?

Two screenshots show what happens.

The first screenshot is the popup after I try to start the app.

This next screenshot is when I go into services.msc to make sure that malwarebytes is set to automatic and is running.

It is on automatic but apparently not running because the Start button is clickable?

This picture shows the popup that I get when I click the Start button:

The steps taken in order:

Searched for and found Error: 1068 supposed solutions: None worked.

Removed/reinstalled the program using Revo uninstaller. No difference.

Removed/reinstalled using the MB_Clean utility from MBAM's site. No difference.

Running in Safe Mode - no difference.

Disabled anti-virus (MSD ONLY) - no difference

Looked through the program data folder to check/remove any references to old installations or to instances of MBAnti-exploit etc - none found.

Ran a couple of registry cleaners just to check if there were any left-over entries pointing things in the wrong direction.

MBAM File version is current but the error persists.

Checked that all the dependency services were running and they are.
No difference.

It has been six months and I Really Miss the app!

Went back to services to look for other dependencies and found this:

If I can't get the software to work ... is there a similar app that will work alongside Windows Defender without conflicts?

Thank You.

It looks like the WMI service is having issues and that's why Malwarebytes won't run since it's one of Malwarebytes' dependencies (it's also used for System Restore in Windows and other system components of the OS as well as other software).  To fix it, please do the following:

Please open an administrative command prompt by clicking START and typing services.msc and pressing Enter
In the Services window, scroll down the list until you find Windows Management Instrumentation and double-click on it
Make certain the Startup type: is set to Automatic, and if it isn't, set it to Automatic via the provided drop-down menu then click Apply and click the Start button to start the service.

If that failed or the Windows Management Instrumentation service was not listed, proceed with the following:

Tweaking.com Windows Repair All-in-One

  • Download Tweaking.com Windows Repair from here and install it or if you would prefer, you may instead download and extract the portable version from here
  • Once installed or extracted, launch Repair_Windows.exe
  • Click on the Repairs - Main tab
  • Click on the Open Repairs button
  • Once it displays the list of repairs, click the checkbox next to All Repairs so that everything listed is UNCHECKED
  • Now, click the checkbox next to Repair WMI so that it is checked
  • Click on the Start Repairs button at the bottom
  • Once it completes, allow it to restart your system

Once that's done, see if Malwarebytes now works properly.

exile360 ... IT WORKED!!!!!

Yes, I am yelling because it has been s-o-o-o long!

Just one more question?

I went and downloaded Malwarebytes again and what I got was a 14 day pro trial edition.

I thought that I was downloading the free home edition because I didn't know if the problem had been fixed.

When the trial version runs it's course will the standard edition still work?

I will probably purchase the pro edition so I am only asking out of curiosity.

Again ... THANK YOU!

Yep, the free trial reverts in to the standard free version after the 14 days.  That's how they do the installer now, so that everyone can try out the Premium version's features for a while to decide if they want to purchase it or not.  Also, if you decide that you just want the free version and don't want to wait through the full 14 days you can always use the Deactivate Trial button located on the My Account tab at the top.

And you're very welcome, I'm glad I was able to help :)
