Computers Restarting Itself

k, not sure what info you need to help me but here's what I have right now.

Running Win xp w/out service pack 2 installed (my mom doesn't want it installed) Thursday the computer ran fine but Friday the computer started restarting itself randomly, sometimes it will restart almost immediately on reboot and sometimes it will run for a while. I turned off the auto restart option so that I could get the error message. The message is

PFN_LIST_CORRUPT

Technical information

0x0000004E (0x00000099, 0x00000000, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)

Also about a week prior a second hard drive was installed on this computer. I'm not sure of the specifics of the drive, I wasn't here that day. Any help would be appreciated!

Any ideas on whats causing this?

Thanks

Tia

Hi Tia,

I have an understanding of the problem, and could probably help you solve it with a little more information.

Download 'Hijack This!'. http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/files/HijackThis.exe

Save it in a convenient permanent folder such as C:\HJT\, double click HijackThis.exe, and hit "Scan".

When the scan is finished, the "Scan" button will change into a "Save Log" button.

Press that, save the log, Ctrl-A to Select All, and copy its contents here. Most of what it lists will be harmless or even essential, don't fix anything yet.

Sorry it's taken me so long to get back to this, I lost the new forum! (Forgot to bookmark the new one)

I'd appreciate any help I can get.
