Malwarebytes Services Causing Slow PC

Recommended Posts

My PC has been running unusually slowly since around Friday (taking a lot longer than usual to launch programes/software,  Google Chrome taking a lot longer to open, open tabs constant refreshing or crashing taking longer to open up file explorer on Win 10)

My PC is usable but its certainly a lot slower than normal... Couldn't think what was wrong but then I remembered that I installed a new version of Malwarebytes at the end of last week.

So are we thinking this is what the problem is? I have to say after getting caught up in the MB memory leak fiasco back in January I'll be VERY unhappy if MB's product is once again causing problems for my PC...

Have got the same issue with my MB this morning (after the software making my PC run slowly since it installed the new version at the end of last week)

Clearly there's a problem with the latest version of MB - Not impressed at all (especially as I'm still unhappy about that memory leak fiasco in January)

Get it sorted out Malwarebytes!

Ransomware and real time protection is currently disabled on my MB and can't be restarted.

PC still running very slowly. I'm increasingly thinking MB has sent through a dodgy version with last weeks upgrade - If I find out MB is causing this I'll be removing them from my PC as after Januaries memory leak fiasco I said one more problem with MB on my machine and I'll have no option but to cancel it and install a new programe.

Something else I've just noticed is that my daily scan is taking a HUGELY longer time to complete compared to before the MB "upgrade".

Like today's scan has just finished and has taken 1h:37min to complete... It's not scanning anything additional - Still scanning just over 300,000 items which efore last weeks "upgrade" used to take around ten minutes?

Anyone else noticed extraordinarily long scan times?

It's just completed it's daily scan (took 1:37 for what used to be a ten minute job) and I notice Ransomeaware and real time protection are now enabled.

Think my PC might be starting to run a bit quicker now the scan is competed as well so I'll see how it goes.

If it comtinues to run slowly I'll follow the steps suggested, thanks. :)

Hi  @dcollins

Here's the file. Sorry for the delay I was busy this evening.

Just to bring you up to speed.

All protections (real time and ransomeware) are enabled and working.

PC still running very, very slowly (it's just about useable but it's certainly not running right...)

I've seen that MB 3.5 Beta might correct this problem so if we can't come up with a fix from the logs I might install the Beta tomorrow as I need a fast PC for my job (I'm a website owner and record weather videos using specialist screen recording software, etc)

Hi @dcollins

Just to bring you up to date, my PC was still running very slowly this morning so I decided to install 3.5 Beta. After initially not thinking it was going to make much difference (things were still very slow after the install) everything seems to be speeding up nice now.

Will report back later today and let you know how I'm getting on.

OK just to bring this up to date.

My PC now seems to be running fully optimal again with 3.5.

I have did have more problems with my PC running very slowly again after the 3.5 download. I was tearing my hair our about an hour ago... But then I remembered that during the download process my PC didn't do a restart at all.

So I went to my power settings and disabled "Fast Startup" Then I did a full power down/up and that seems to have gotten 3.5 to take affaect.

Everything is now running very fast and perfectly again... It's like having an old friend back lol!

Yeah, it probably had the older 3.4.5 versions of the drivers/service in memory following the upgrade before the reboot.  We'll have to make a note of that, especially for Windows 8/8.1/10 users who might have Fast Startup enabled.

Thank you exile for helping to get things sorted out for me.

It's such a relief to have my PC working well again.  When 3.5 is rolled out to everyone will I still have to install it as a regular update?

You're welcome, I'm glad to help :)

I'm pleased that you've finally found a build which (at least so far; fingers crossed) corrects the performance problems you'd been having.

If no further issues/bugs are discovered in the build which require fixing then it will be released as-is so no update will be needed (the beta will be exactly the same as the final build), however if QA/the testers find any major issues that the Product team deems unacceptable, then they'll fix it and push out a new build prior to release, and that later build will become the final version.  So really it all just depends on just how stable this beta turns out to be, but so far based on what I've observed here on the forums as well as on my own system (I'm using it myself), it seems pretty stable to me so I don't expect any changes before it goes GA/RTM (General Availability/Release to Manufacturing) and starts getting pushed out to non-beta testers as a regular update/upgrade.

Well that's around normal for a daily MB scan for my PC.

Those hour and a half scan's I was suffering with this week with 3.4.5 were very much the exception and I guess an indication of how slow my computer was going due to high CPU etc.

But it's deffo an indication that 3.5 has got my system back to normal which I'm very happy about. I don't know what it was but my PC was very, very upset with 3.4.5.
