No start menu, no icons, blank desktop

Recommended Posts

Hi and thanks in advanced. I have posted on other forums and have yet to get a response and thus the problem has escalated...

It started simple as ever, google/yahoo redirecting searches. then woke up one morning and windows antivirus pro had installed itself so removed it with malewarebytes but google was still redirecting after clean malewarebytes scans (full and quick). posted problem on another forum and haven't gotten a response, I've been having to run malewarebytes every 6-12 hours to keep viruses (virii?) at bay. when I woke up this morning, advanced virus remover and antivirus something pro were installed and throwing false system errors and "need to update" "need to disinfect" errors, when I opened MB, it ran for <10 seconds and then quit. I tried to open it again, rename it, etc, I kept getting the same error, "file does not exist" or something of that nature. tried to open task manager to force quit viruses and got "disabled by the administrator" who is me...

in a fit of frustration I rebooted into safe mode to not have windows load at all (start menu, icons, 'you are in safe mode would you like to continue' prompt), let sit 5 minutes, processor was processing something but never really loaded. so I restarted again only into normal windows and the desktop image loaded but no icons, no start menu, and when I tried alt+ctrl+del or shift+ctrl+esc I get he same error, "disabled by adminstrator".

restarted one more time, this time into ubuntu and it wouldn't load past the GRUB menu, just a blank screen and no processing. I am going to try to reinstall ubuntu for the time being (still have live CD) but what can I do about windows. I do not have a windows CD (recovery or other), this was a prebuilt (compaq) that I received as a gift (read:hand-me-down). I am currently on a library computer...
