MBAM/HJT/Rootrepeal/SpybotS&D/AVGfree all blocked

Recommended Posts

started with AVcare, a.exe, and msb.exe infections this morning, along with a few other trojans. as soon as i started getting the fake alerts or whatever i killed every unknown process running and also some of the extra fluff processes that didnt need to be running. there is still a msb.exe file in my windows folder, and another msb related file in my windows/prefetch folder (i left those there because the last time i dealt with an infection like this when i tried to nuke a similar file, it created a NTauthority error what would auto shutdown the system after 30 seconds of bootup even in safemode). i found all the a.exe related files in my temp files and nuked them at the time. and havent had that process reload since, AVcare and all the fake system alerts have stopped. i'm still getting some google redirects.

Neither AVG or Spybot S&D would run, so i tried to d/l and install MBAM, but the setup wouldnt even run, so i changed the name of the setup program, and it ran until it got to the end and then stalled out for an hour. I've tried running HJT but every time i start a scan it will start and a second or two later it shuts off without any trace of a log file output, try to run it again and i get a system error that says "Windows cannot access the specified device, path or file. You may not have appropriate permissions to access them.", then tried to run Rootrepeal, and pretty much got the same problem, it seems that as soon as i get a program on to this infections trail, it shuts it out and then blocks its access to run

of the issues from #5, CLB Rootkit driver=TDSS/Seneka/GAOPDX/UAC/ovfst/kungsf/SKYNET/MSIVX, seems like its most like my problem, the issue i have is, rootrepeal when i tried to run the scan like it says, it will scan for a few seconds then it closed out, and then when i try to run rootrepeal again i get the error "Windows cannot access the specified device, path or file. You may not have appropriate permissions to access them."

Okay please try GMER instead and see if that works.

Please download the following scanning tool. GMER

  • Download the randomly named EXE and copy the file to your Desktop. Remember what its name is.

  • Double click on
    random named exe file
    and run it.

  • It may take a minute to load and become available.

  • Do not make any changes. Click on the
    SCAN
button and DO NOT use the computer while it's scanning.

  • Once the scan is done click on the
    SAVE
button and browse to your Desktop and save the file as
    GMER.LOG

  • Zip up the
    GMER.LOG
    file and save it as
    gmerlog.zip
and attach it to your reply post.

  • DO NOT
directly post this log into a reply. You
    MUST
attach it as a .ZIP file.

  • Click OK and quit the GMER program.

  • Root Admin

STEP 01

Please download Avenger 2.0 from here

Open and copy the program file avenger.exe to your Desktop then double click to start it.

Copy and paste the following text from the code box below into the main window of Avenger.

Files to move:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\logevent.dll | C:\WINDOWS\system32\eventlog.dll
C:\WINDOWS\ServicePackFiles\i386\helpsvc.exe | C:\WINDOWS\pchealth\helpctr\binaries\helpsvc.exe

  • Do not check any other boxes, uncheck Scan for Rootkits if it's checked
  • Close all other running applications
  • After pasting the text into the main window, click on Execute

Once Avenger is done then download and run Combofix and Malwarebytes

STEP 02

Please download ComboFix from Here or Here to your Desktop.

**Note: In the event you already have Combofix, this is a new version that I need you to download. It is important that it is saved and renamed following this process directly to your desktop**

  1. If you are using Firefox, make sure that your download settings are as follows:
    • Tools->Options->Main tab
    • Set to "Always ask me where to Save the files".

[*]During the download, rename Combofix to Combo-Fix as follows:

CF_download_FF.gif

CF_download_rename.gif

[*]It is important you rename Combofix during the download, but not after.

[*]Please do not rename Combofix to other names, but only to the one indicated.

[*]Close any open browsers.

[*]Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

-----------------------------------------------------------

  • Very Important! Temporarily disable your anti-virus, script blocking and any anti-malware real-time protection before performing a scan. They can interfere with ComboFix or remove some of its embedded files which may cause "unpredictable results".
  • Click on this link to see a list of programs that should be disabled. The list is not all inclusive. If yours is not listed and you don't know how to disable it, please ask.

    -----------------------------------------------------------

  • Close any open browsers.
  • WARNING: Combofix will disconnect your machine from the Internet as soon as it starts
  • Please do not attempt to re-connect your machine back to the Internet until Combofix has completely finished.
  • If there is no internet connection after running Combofix, then restart your computer to restore back your connection.

-----------------------------------------------------------

[*]Double click on combo-Fix.exe & follow the prompts.

[*]When finished, it will produce a report for you.

[*]Please post the "C:\Combo-Fix.txt" along with a new HijackThis log for further review.

**Note: Do not mouseclick combo-fix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall**

If you still cannot get this to run, try booting into Safe Mode, and run it there.

To boot into Safe Mode, tap F8 after BIOS, and just before the Windows logo appears. A list of options will appear, select "Safe Mode."

If this doesn't work either, try the same method (above method), but name Combofix.exe to iexplore.exe instead, or winlogon.exe..

This because It also happens in some cases that malware blocks EVERY process except for what is in its own whitelist, so this whitelist also includes system important processes such as iexplore.exe, explorer.exe, winlogon.exe...

STEP 03

Update and Scan with Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware

  • Start MalwareBytes AntiMalware (Vista users must Right click and choose RunAs Admin)
  • Please DO NOT run MBAM in Safe Mode unless requested to, you MUST run it in normal Windows mode.
    • Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
    • Select the Update tab
    • Click Update

[*]When the update is complete, select the Scanner tab

[*]Select Perform quick scan, then click Scan.

[*]When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.

[*]Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.

[*]When completed, a log will open in Notepad. please copy and paste the log into your next reply

    • If you accidently close it, the log file is saved here and will be named like this:
    • C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Application Data\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\Logs\mbam-log-date (time).txt

Then post back the MBAM log and a new Hijackthis log.

avenger worked fine with no hiccups, i can post the log if you like but was pretty much script/files moved sucessfully... finished

i am running combo-fix.exe now and it is running fine, but i'm getting a prompt that is asking if i'd like Combo Fix to D/L and Install the recovery console, otherwise it will not attempt to fix some serious infections. right now i have the wireless adapter unplugged, and have been transferring files via a jump drive from my laptop. should i reconnect the wireless adapter, which im hesistant to do as to reinfect what i've been disinfecting so far... or is there a link you might have so that i can download the recovery console from there and install it via a jump drive, before continuing on with Combo-fix.exe process

Please download and run the following fix from Microsoft How do I restore security settings to the default settings?

When completed please reboot your computer.

Then update MBAM again and do another Quick Scan and post that log.

Please temporarily disable your current Anti-Virus in order to run this Online AV scanner.

Run Eset NOD32 Online AntiVirus

Note: You will need to use Internet Explorer for this scan.

  • Tick the box next to YES, I accept the Terms of Use.
  • Click Start
  • When asked, allow the activex control to install
  • Disable your current Antivirus software. You can usually do this with its Notfication Tray icon near the clock.
  • Click Start
  • Make sure that the option "Remove found threats" is Un-checked, and the option "Scan unwanted applications" is checked
  • Click Scan
  • Wait for the scan to finish
  • Re-enable your Anvirisus software.
  • A logfile is created and located at C:\Program Files\EsetOnlineScanner\log.txt. Please include this on your post.

Well I'm sorry but since you have evidence of cracked or pirated software you're using on the system I have no choice but to close this thread now.

If you feel this is inaccurate information please send me a private message explaining in detail and I will review your information.

HiJack This! Forum Policy

We will not be party to obvious use of key gens, cracks, warez or other illegal means of downloading software, music, videos ect. This means no P2P evidence will be supported. Logs that show these in them, will given the option to remove the P2P items. Keygens, cracks, warez and similar will have the thread closed period. It's theft and against the law.
