What is the version# of the new MWB that's wants to download?

Recommended Posts

I get popups to download a new version of MWB several times each hour.

I Do Not like to download brand new versions of Any software and prefer to wait several weeks or even a month or two before download.

1. How can I find out what the version# MWB is trying to download and what is the Date it first came out in it's current form?

2. Why is there no user option to postpone the installation at the customer's discretion and to stop the annoying popups for say 7-14 days?

3 . Are there other easy ways to stop the MWB update popups?

Most responsible vendors are more sensitive to their customer's needs, do not try to force feed their downloads and provide a check-off box to delay the installation.

4. All other forums I belong to have a one-time default option to "Notify me of replies" so users do not have to check off such a box each time.

Does MWB have such an option?

If you are having technical issues with our Windows product, please do the following:

If you haven't done so already, please run these two tools and then attach the logs in your next reply:

NOTE: The tools and the information obtained is safe and not harmful to your privacy or your computer, please allow the programs to run if blocked by your system.

  • Farbar Recovery Scan Tool (FRST)
    1. Download FRST and save it to your desktop
Note: You need to run the version compatible with your system. You can check here if you're not sure if your computer is 32-bit or 64-bit
    2. Double-click to run FRST and when the tool opens click "Yes" to the disclaimer
    3. Press the "Scan" button
    4. This will produce two files in the same location (directory) as FRST: FRST.txt and Addition.txt
      • Leave the log files in the current location, they will be automatically collected by mb-check once you complete the next set of instructions
  • MB-Check
    1. Download MB-Check and save to your desktop
    2. Double-click to run MB-Check and within a few second the command window will open, press "Enter" to accept the EULA then click "OK"
    3. This will produce one log file on your desktop: mb-check-results.zip
      • This file will include the FRST logs generated from the previous set of instructions
      • Attach this file to your forum post by clicking on the "Drag files here to attach, or choose files..." or simply drag the file to the attachment area

  1. There's no way from inside of Malwarebytes to see what version is being downloaded, ideally it's always just one version higher than what you have currently.
  2. You can disable update checks under Settings -> Application by turning off the option to check for application updates. There's no option to "postpone" the update time as the updates are metered out over time, so there's a good chance it'll be a few days/weeks before you even get prompted to update.
  3. If you are getting nagged already for the download, you should follow the instructions here: https://support.malwarebytes.com/docs/DOC-2465
  4. I don't believe we have an option for universal "subscribe to all posts I make" but we can pass that feedback along

If the pending upgrade has already been downloaded, you can also go to the instlrupdate folder mentioned in the support article dcollins linked to above and check the version info and file name of the installer there to see what version is awaiting installation, then cross-reference that info with the release history to determine when it was released and what new features, fixes and other changes are included in the new build.
