Lisaweb Posted March 28, 2018 ID:1227795 Share Posted March 28, 2018 On antivirus programs we've used in the past, they had a feature which allowed you to enter a passcode, that prevented anyone from uninstalling the software. I see that Malwarebytes has "User Access" Limitations, but I am unsure which feature to restrict, to prevent uninstalling. It is "settings/application"? Also can you point me to info that provides more details about each of these choices? Thanks!

Solution AlexSmith Posted March 28, 2018 Solution ID:1227810 Share Posted March 28, 2018 Hi @Lisaweb!! Welcome to the Malwarebytes Forums. To add on to what @Firefox posted, the User Access feature of Malwarebytes Premium allows you to restrict access to certain of the product with a password. It does not restrict the ability to uninstall the product from within Windows. You can find out more about this feature in the Malwarebytes for Windows user guide which @Firefox linked to above. With that being said, restricting a Windows user from being able to uninstall programs or modify system-wide settings can be handled using Standard User Accounts or Group Policies depending on the edition of Windows you are using (e.g. Home, Pro, Enterprise, etc.) and the computing environment you are in (e.g. personal, business, enterprise, ect.). If you want to look in to doing that, I would recommend researching it on Microsoft's website or contacting a local IT professional (e.g. IT consultant, computer repair shop, Geek Squad, etc.) for assistance. Lisaweb Posted March 28, 2018 Author ID:1227840 Share Posted March 28, 2018 Thanks guys! It sure would be great if Malwarebytes would add that feature, like their competition does. But in the meantime - will any of the settings stop the antivirus from being disabled?

Yes, if you go to MalwareBytes Settings, then near the bottom, you'll see 'User Access'. Enable that, and after doing so, come up with a password to use. There are 7 choices for MalwareBytes that will restrict another user, if he/she doesn't have the password you set. One of choices is 'settings' (5) of those, which would cover all the enable/disable of options such as [application, protection, scan schedule, exclusions, my account] etc...Very nice feature to have! exile360 Posted March 28, 2018 ID:1227934 Share Posted March 28, 2018 (edited) If you're using any version of Windows that has User Account Control, it should be prevented by default as you will receive a UAC prompt any time you try to disable any protection component, exit Malwarebytes, or try to uninstall it. You can take this even further by password protecting access to the Protection using the User Access feature under Settings>Application. Turn User Access On then click Edit User Access and check the box next to Protection (I would recommend doing likewise for Exclusions but that's up to you) and configure the password for it to use. As for uninstalling the program, you may set up a password for all administrative user accounts on the system and make sure that User Account Control is active. More info on UAC and how it works may be found in the following links: UAC Overview How User Account Control Works User Account Control in Windows Vista Adjust User Account Control settings in Windows 7 and Windows 8 Understanding User Account Control (UAC) User Account Control security policy settings Description of User Account Control and Remote Restrictions in Windows User Account Control Group Policy and registry key settings Edited March 28, 2018 by exile360
