jcbpublic Posted August 28, 2009 Author ID:116219 Share Posted August 28, 2009 Have Bluehost Inc. remove their 55 malware hosted sites:http://hosts-file.net/?s=69.89.31.110&view=matchesThanks for your response, however..........The IP blocking service is blocking at a higher CIDR level. This methodology will result in a larger number of false positives and therefore a less effective service. Since blocking a legitimate email service provider is not an option for those relying upon that email service, the IP protection must be disabled by the user IF they can successfully diagnose and correct. While the response is humorous (and hopefully tongue in cheek) , it is not practical. Consider the impact to less tech-saavy users who purchase MBAM and suddenly cannot receive email. Having hosting services monitor for all the various user protection software triggers and quickly react to those does not seem likely. Having email or other service providers monitor and swap providers is also impractical.I would expect complaints and pressure from both the MBAM users and various service providers that see their trouble desk volumes rise because they are hosted in the same higher CIDR block as an unscrupulous site. While the IP protection service is excellent in concept, I do believe it needs some refinement to be useful and practical. Just my opinion.
MysteryFCM Posted August 28, 2009 ID:116300 Share Posted August 28, 2009 This CNET (/24) is not actually blocked completely, nor is this specific IP address. There are however, some IP's (24 at present) within this range, that are blocked due to malicious behaviour. If BlueHost start responding to abuse reports and take down the malicious sites, these IP's will be removed.
