IBMJunkman Posted March 19, 2018 ID:1225420 Share Posted March 19, 2018 Version 3.4.42398 Mass file deletes slowed to a crawl. Killed Malwarebytes and deletes ran extremely fast again. What is MB doing with deletes?

exile360 Posted March 19, 2018 ID:1225423 Share Posted March 19, 2018 If you disable just the Ransomware Protection component in Malwarebytes, does that eliminate the issue?
IBMJunkman Posted March 19, 2018 Author ID:1225447 Share Posted March 19, 2018 Yes, that fixed it. So I lose Ransomware Protection?
Firefox Posted March 19, 2018 ID:1225449 Share Posted March 19, 2018 3 minutes ago, IBMJunkman said: Yes, that fixed it. So I lose Ransomware Protection? You only need to disable it when you need to delete a bat of files, then re-enable it. They are working on a fix that should be out sometime at the end of this month... exile360 Posted March 19, 2018 ID:1225453 Share Posted March 19, 2018 You might also try disabling it once then re-enabling it and seeing if it is still slow. I have observed that some performance issues caused by it are corrected as long as it is disabled/re-enabled one time during the current Windows session (if you shut down/reboot the system you have to do it again to eliminate the performance issue once more for the current Windows session). IBMJunkman Posted March 19, 2018 Author ID:1225460 Share Posted March 19, 2018 The mass deletes are in a PC shutdown batch file. I have just added a NET STOP MBAMSERVICE command at the top of the batch file and then a delay of 2 seconds. This allows me to be protected while running and then just using my normal shutdown process.
exile360 Posted March 19, 2018 ID:1225468 Share Posted March 19, 2018 You could probably get away with just stopping MBAMFarflt and accomplish the same and it likely wouldn't take as long to shut down as MBAMService does. That's the driver that is used for the anti-ransomware component.
IBMJunkman Posted March 19, 2018 Author ID:1225475 Share Posted March 19, 2018 I have the ransomware protection on. The only MBAM* I see running is MBAMService and mbamtray. I tried the net stop and got no error. MB tray still shows Ransonprotection on but the big delete ran fast so I guess the service was actually stopped. exile360 Posted March 19, 2018 ID:1225479 Share Posted March 19, 2018 Yes, the one I mentioned is actually a driver, not a service, though to Windows they're virtually the same thing in many ways (including the ability to monitor and control them via command line via tools like SC and NET). Obviously since it is a driver, it isn't going to show up in Task Manager, but as long as it works then it's obviously fine either way. I just don't want you to risk any instability because in some past versions of Malwarebytes, stopping MBAMService manually or killing it via tools like Task Manager actually sometimes resulted in a system hang/freeze where it becomes totally unresponsive. Hopefully those days are over, but I figured better safe than sorry.
exception Posted March 24, 2018 ID:1226790 Share Posted March 24, 2018 (edited) Just for informational purposes, I've got the same problem, example: When creating a new Angular project, it takes a very *very* long time to create it (30.000+ files). Eventually it will fail with all kinds of errors. Deleting a project, is also very, very slow. After a while I found out it was Malwarebytes. After quiting Malwarebytes, file deletion speeds where normal, and creating a new project was without any errors. After reading this thread I can confirm that (temporarily) disabling the Ransomeware Protection solves this issue. Can't wait to see a fix for this 'problem' Edited March 24, 2018 by exception
woenel Posted April 2, 2018 ID:1229275 Share Posted April 2, 2018 I just uninstalled my Malwarebytes because of this, my local web server runs really slow because of this. Deleting, modifying and copying of files take time until I disabled the Malwarebytes. hoping that this get fixed really soon.
