setup my account?

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I purchased a lifetime license in 2011.  I would like to purchase additional licenses now to cover my other computers.

I have not logged into my account in a long time, so I tried to reset the password, never receive the e-mail, and a message pops up that says I need to setup my account, and that I should have received an e-mail invitation to do so.  I have all my e-mails (and I checked spam folder, I'm an IT guy) including my original purchase invoice, I do not have this e-mail.

I realize they have no phone support for home products.  So, would I be correct that there is no automated way to get my account setup, I will have to wait until Monday or Tuesday during business hours in CA so that someone can manually send this e-mail to me?

If so, I will adjust my expectations accordingly.  Going to be a busy week for me, I have time to work on this now, that is the only reason I was hoping to get it done, and did not think I would need intervention from support.

I did open a ticket with support.  But wanted to post here just in case to confirm with others if I am correct on this.  And/or in case anyone from Malwarebytes sees it and can pop out the e-mail for me real-quick.

Thanks very much.

Spoiler

If you haven't done so already, please run these two tools and then attach the logs in your next reply:

NOTE: The tools and the information obtained is safe and not harmful to your privacy or your computer, please allow the programs to run if blocked by your system.

  • Farbar Recovery Scan Tool (FRST)
    1. Download FRST and save it to your desktop
Note: You need to run the version compatible with your system. You can check here if you're not sure if your computer is 32-bit or 64-bit
    2. Double-click to run FRST and when the tool opens click "Yes" to the disclaimer
    3. Press the "Scan" button
    4. This will produce two files in the same location (directory) as FRST: FRST.txt and Addition.txt
      • Leave the log files in the current location, they will be automatically collected by mb-check once you complete the next set of instructions
  • MB-Check
    1. Download MB-Check and save to your desktop
    2. Double-click to run MB-Check and within a few second the command window will open, press "Enter" to accept the EULA then click "OK"
    3. This will produce one log file on your desktop: mb-check-results.zip
      • This file will include the FRST logs generated from the previous set of instructions
      • Attach this file to your forum post by clicking on the "Drag files here to attach, or choose files..." or simply drag the file to the attachment area

The Lifetime licenses are good for only one computer at a time and are not available anymore to purchase for your other computers.

You will have to purchase new subscription ones for your other computers. You may do that at any time by going to the Malwarebytes main site and order them.

They will take care of the "My Account" issue.

Greetings Porthos... (Enterprise fan?)

Thank you very much for the response.  I appreciate it.

So, what you are saying is, I can buy the licenses for my other computers anonymously, and associate them with my account later after purchase, after they fix the account issue.

Yes?

- Looking at the home version 10 licenses for $130/year, it looks like the only "online" thing is what machines are licensed.  Is there any basic centralized reporting?  I don't need a fancy console, just an e-mail or text message saying "computer X found X and needs attention".  *maybe* a monthly report, summarizing usage.

- I am an IT guy encouraging my boss to look at this instead of McAfee... definition-based AV/AM gives you "compliance" but little actual protection from real threats.  They have a new version called ENS that few people are using yet.

That is only in the business offerings. https://www.malwarebytes.com/business/endpointprotection/

What you would be buying (consumer license) is one key that is good for those "10" computers. The same program as your current lifetime but subscription now. The "my Account" would be tied to the email used for that purchase.

- Business offerings, I did look at that, approx $1500/year for 10, I don't need it that badly, some companies let me use this stuff for free so I can learn it (VMware, Microsoft, Citrix, and a few others), as long as you are some kind of registered / certified affiliate.  So sometimes is does not hurt to ask.

- OK, thanks on the home licenses, I will wait until they fix my account then because that is my main e-mail address.  Probably avoid more problems that way.  Hey, I am going to be in CA next week, I just swing my Santa Clara and say hello.

- Damn I miss that show, killed it just as it was starting to get good.  I am a black sheep that liked that show.  If you are current on Discovery (DO NOT watch EP1, start with EP2, or at least realize it is slightly worse than The Cage) the cannon is the same and you and I are probably in the minority that would catch the references right away.  Good show otherwise, harsh, not for kids though.  DS9 still my #1...

That end of Discovery made me think season 2 will not start soon enough.

You are welcome to use the consumer version on those 10 computers.  I only mentioned the business version because you mentioned centralized control.
