Can not activate my account

Recommended Posts

Okay. I had a nasty infection on my computer and it somehow messed with my malwarebytes. I think its cleared off but when I tried to activate my license again for Malwarebytes, the field is gray'd out. Would not let me click on it whatsoever after filling out information. I don't recall my old email that I use for malwarebytes when I originally purchased the product roughly 3-4 years ago. Can someone help me out with this?

Edit: Oh I still have the ID and Key with me on hand.

If you haven't done so already, please run these two tools and then attach the logs in your next reply:

NOTE: The tools and the information obtained is safe and not harmful to your privacy or your computer, please allow the programs to run if blocked by your system.

  • Farbar Recovery Scan Tool (FRST)
    1. Download FRST and save it to your desktop
Note: You need to run the version compatible with your system. You can check here if you're not sure if your computer is 32-bit or 64-bit
    2. Double-click to run FRST and when the tool opens click "Yes" to the disclaimer
    3. Press the "Scan" button
    4. This will produce two files in the same location (directory) as FRST: FRST.txt and Addition.txt
      • Leave the log files in the current location, they will be automatically collected by mb-check once you complete the next set of instructions
  • MB-Check
    1. Download MB-Check and save to your desktop
    2. Double-click to run MB-Check and within a few second the command window will open, press "Enter" to accept the EULA then click "OK"
    3. This will produce one log file on your desktop: mb-check-results.zip
      • This file will include the FRST logs generated from the previous set of instructions
      • Attach this file to your forum post by clicking on the "Drag files here to attach, or choose files..." or simply drag the file to the attachment area

I also tried adding the "-" to the letters but no avail.

All the dashes have to be there. I encountered a similar issue on two clients recently. I had to copy and paste from a text document to get the KEY to give me the check.

Also, exit MB from the tray icon and wait for a bit and try again.

Greetings,

It appears that User Account Control is disabled on your system.  Please try exiting Malwarebytes via the tray by right-clicking and selecting Quit Malwarebytes then when you go to launch it again, right-click on its icon and select Run as administrator to ensure that it launches with full administrative privileges.  Then try registering the software with your license again and let us know how it goes.

I decided to sleep on this issue and then come back to find that all of a sudden, the activate button is no longer gray... Weird.

I exited out of MB and checked "run as administrator" in the properties\advanced of the shortcut icon on my desktop and still do not get the activation button working nor do I see the green checks after the ID and key.  I even activated the user account control but to no avail.  Any other ideas are welcome.!

OK, if you would, please follow the instructions in this support article to perform a clean installation and then try activating the software with your license key again.

If that proves unsuccessful then please contact Support directly via one of the options on this page so that they may look up your license info and verify that there isn't anything blocking it for any reason (like too many activations etc. which can sometimes happen after having reinstalled the software following a reinstallation of Windows).

OK, I'm sorry it's proving so difficult.  Hopefully Support will be able to track down the issue with the license key and get it corrected quickly for you.

In the meantime, if there is anything else we can help you with please don't hesitate to let us know and we'll do our best to assist.
