apiurl.org warning each time i start Chrome

Recommended Posts

I get this warning each time I start the Chrome browser:

Ifc7tjm.png

It doesn't happen if the browser is already started and I open a new tab or start another session.

I have the latest MBAM.

Can someone please explain what that website is and why Chrome always connects to it on first start? Thanks!

If you haven't done so already, please run these two tools and then attach the logs in your next reply:

NOTE: The tools and the information obtained is safe and not harmful to your privacy or your computer, please allow the programs to run if blocked by your system.

  • Farbar Recovery Scan Tool (FRST)
    1. Download FRST and save it to your desktop
Note: You need to run the version compatible with your system. You can check here if you're not sure if your computer is 32-bit or 64-bit
    2. Double-click to run FRST and when the tool opens click "Yes" to the disclaimer
    3. Press the "Scan" button
    4. This will produce two files in the same location (directory) as FRST: FRST.txt and Addition.txt
      • Leave the log files in the current location, they will be automatically collected by mb-check once you complete the next set of instructions
  • MB-Check
    1. Download MB-Check and save to your desktop
    2. Double-click to run MB-Check and within a few second the command window will open, press "Enter" to accept the EULA then click "OK"
    3. This will produce one log file on your desktop: mb-check-results.zip
      • This file will include the FRST logs generated from the previous set of instructions
      • Attach this file to your forum post by clicking on the "Drag files here to attach, or choose files..." or simply drag the file to the attachment area

Hey Firefox, thanks for your message.

Unfortunately, it doesn't apply to me since I'm not logged into Chrome, so it's not a sync issue.

What else can it be?

Thank you, Firefox.

@dcollins Starting Chrome directly into incognito mode makes the same popup appear, yes.

As I said, if Chrome is already started and I start another instance of it (incognito or not), the popup does not appear.

I see you have Firefox on there as well, does that trigger this notification at all? What about IE?

Do you have extensions that are set to load in Incognito mode of Chrome?

Problem solved, @dcollins. Thank you so much. Here's the story:

Starting Firefox, IE 11 or Opera doesn't trigger any notifications from Malwarebytes.

I don't have any Chrome extensions that are set to load in incognito mode. I only have 2 extensions (I don't use Chrome much) and after disabling one of them, the notification went away!

Here's the problematic extension: VK Music Download - Save Vkontakte audio 6.0.7

I installed it a long time ago, before having Malwarebytes, and totally forgot about it. I would have noticed it right away because the notification comes up when you enable it in Chrome.

It's not allowed to start in incognito mode, but it seems that it does anyway. It's a dodgy plugin so I got rid of it.

Thank you all for your help!
