Malwarebytes keeps pc from shutting down

Recommended Posts

I shut off my pc, next thing I notice is the pc is running.  I come to realize that after I shut off pc, a box appears telling me malwarebytes is running.  Once I stop malwarebytes the pc will shut down.  Not sure why I need to run malwarebytes when I power off the pc.  I uninstalled, reinstalled, rebooted and same thing.  Attached files.  Chatted with malwarebytes and his solution was remove malwarebytes.

If you haven't done so already, please run these two tools and then attach the logs in your next reply:

NOTE: The tools and the information obtained is safe and not harmful to your privacy or your computer, please allow the programs to run if blocked by your system.

  • Farbar Recovery Scan Tool (FRST)
    1. Download FRST and save it to your desktop
Note: You need to run the version compatible with your system. You can check here if you're not sure if your computer is 32-bit or 64-bit
    2. Double-click to run FRST and when the tool opens click "Yes" to the disclaimer
    3. Press the "Scan" button
    4. This will produce two files in the same location (directory) as FRST: FRST.txt and Addition.txt
      • Leave the log files in the current location, they will be automatically collected by mb-check once you complete the next set of instructions
  • MB-Check
    1. Download MB-Check and save to your desktop
    2. Double-click to run MB-Check and within a few second the command window will open, press "Enter" to accept the EULA then click "OK"
    3. This will produce one log file on your desktop: mb-check-results.zip
      • This file will include the FRST logs generated from the previous set of instructions
      • Attach this file to your forum post by clicking on the "Drag files here to attach, or choose files..." or simply drag the file to the attachment area

@whb52ford

Could you try toggle "Fast Start" and let us know if that helps with this issue?

  1. Click on Start (Windows logo) and type in "Control Panel"
  2. Go to "System and Security" and click on "Power Options"
  3. On the left-hand side, click "Choose what the power buttons do"
  4. Select the "Change settings currently unavailable" link
  5. Uncheck the "Turn on fast start-up" box under Shut-down settings
  6. Reboot

Can you clarify what you mean by Malwarebytes prevents the computer from shutting down? Are you saying that if you choose to shutdown, you get a popup box saying you can't shutdown or the computer just doesn't do anything until you close Malwarebytes? Are you able to take a picture/screenshot of what you see on the screen?

Ok, can you try the following please?

  1. Open Malwarebytes
  2. Navigate to Settings -> Applications
  3. Turn on the option for Event Log Data
  4. Attempt to restart your computer
  5. If the message from above is displayed, click "Shut down anyway"
    1. If the computer doesn't shutdown after this, then close Malwarebytes and try again
  6. Start the computer back up
  7. Once it's up, please run mb-check again and upload the new zip file it creates on your desktop
