web protection won't turn on

Recommended Posts

I have been suffering from this problem for some days on one of 2 Win10 PCs sitting side-by-side. On one mb3 has been working perfectly, on the other web protection would not turn on.

I finally found a very simple solution (after trying lots of complicated stuff!). If you have this problem, before doing anything complicated (like running tools or log files), take a look at your version information (under Settings, then About). There are 3 lines: MB version, Component package version, Update package version. These were identical (running the latest version, fully updated) on both my PCs EXCEPT:

- mb3 no web protection showed Component package version: 1.0.0

- mb3 working version showed Component package version: 1.0.262 (which matches latest download version mb3-setup-consumer-3.3.1.2183-1.0.262-...)

So, I downloaded mb3 & installed it over the existing installation on the PC with no web protection & hey presto, Component package version now shows 1.0.262 & web protection is on.

PS. I have no idea how the earlier installation got 1.0.0 (a faulty update perhaps, since web protection had been working fine for a long time).

:welcome:

Thank you for your "suggestion" Yes what you mentioned sometimes works but the cause and the long-term solution are different for each user and that is why we need diagnostic logs

I am glad your solution worked for you.
