Malware (adware?) infection - drivethelife, onclickads

Recommended Posts

I had this issue 2 or 3 weeks ago. Malwarebytes constantly popups blocking a few different (what appears to be) adware issues, such as drivethelife and onclickads. There's a 3rd one that shows up sometimes but much more rarely. My Avast antivirus couldn't find any issues, and running a scan on my lifetime license MWB gives a message that there are no threats found. I have a temporary license on HitManPro and it seems to find tracking cookies but nothing to do with adware (from what I can tell).  I uninstalled Malwarebytes and reinstalled it but lost my license key for about 10 days. During this time, I had no popups about these infections. I restored the key yesterday and started getting these constant annoying popups. I verified my installed programs and see nothing that seems related. All installed programs are normal Microsoft and other regular updates to my apps. I see nothing that seems related in my running processes, either.

So how do I get rid of these popups? If there really is an infection (despite Malwarebytes telling me there isn't one), how do I get rid of it? Please help ASAP. I can't focus on my work with these popups annoying me constantly.

Please find the requested logs as well as the report from Malwarebytes. All of these were run today, February 7, 2018 sing Malwarebytes Premium. MWB is still telling me there are no issues found but it keeps popping up with blocked sites like drivethelife.net and onclickads.net. My Avast Antivirus isn't reporting anything, either. Also MWB real time scanning will not stay on so I'm getting popups about that being off, too.

Thanks for your attention in this matter.

Hello johnc214,

Navigate to this folder: C:\Program Files (x86)\OSTotoSoft\ConquerorLive   double click on this file Uninstall.exe Reboot when the uninstall completes... Navigate to and delete the following folder if still present... C:\Program Files (x86)\OSTotoSoft Let me know if those actions complete successfully.

Next,

Download attached fixlist.txt file (end of reply) and save it to the Desktop, or the folder you saved FRST into. "Do not open that file when running FRST fix"
NOTE. It's important that both FRST and fixlist.txt are in the same location or the fix will not work.

Open FRST and press the Fix button just once and wait.
The tool will make a log on the Desktop (Fixlog.txt) or the folder it was ran from. Please post it to your reply.

Next,

Download Microsoft's " Malicious Software Removal Tool" and save direct to the desktop

Ensure to get the correct version for your system....

All processes requested are complete. Here are the files requested.

I hope after all this you can tell me how to fix MWB so I can turn on real-time protection. I still cannot leave MWB Premium running because this won't turn on and I get constant popups that it's off.

Totally Remove Malwarebytes from your system:

Download the latest version of MB-Clean by clicking this link: https://downloads.malwarebytes.com/file/mb_clean save to your Desktop, or a folder of your choice.

  • Close all open applications
  • Double-click and run mb-clean.exe
  • A prompt with an option to clean up the system will appear:

Yes - will proceed with backing up the license key (Malwarebytes 3.x only) and initiating the cleanup process. (Recommended)
No - will exit the utility

Once the cleanup process is completed, a prompt will appear:

Yes – will proceed and post reboot you will be prompted to continue with the downloading, installation and activation of latest version of Malwarebytes 3.x (Recommended)
No – will exit the utility and you will not be prompted (post reboot) to download, reinstall and re-activate (Not Recommended)

We recommend rebooting immediately. Additionally, stopping at this step is not recommended and will most likely not resolve your issue(s).

Upon reboot, a prompt will appear:

Yes - will download, install and activate the latest version of Malwarebytes 3.x (Recommended)
No - will exit the utility and the cleanup process is complete...

A log file ("mb-clean-results.txt") will be on your desktop, post that log. Also let me know if Malwarebytes runs correctly...

Thank you,

Kevin...

Please find the requested file attached. So far, the updated version of MWB has let the real time protection stay on. It's only been a few minutes so far but it seems to be working.

One thing MWB and I are arguing about is Weatherbug. It's one of my favorite and most useful weather programs, but it may be causing issues reporting adware and other things with MWB. Matter of fact, the cleanup process you walked me through yesterday removed Weatherbug from my machine. I tried to reinstall it today and it seems to be blocked. Is there any way I can use Weatherbug and MWB without MWB removing it, blocking it, or giving me numerous issue popups regarding it? Can I make MWB ignore Weatherbug altogether?

You can turn off Malwarebytes, right click on the tray icon, select "Quit Malwarebytes" Then install your program, restart Malwarebytes. You will then have to add Weatherbug as an exclusion:

Let me know if there are any remaining issues or concerns, or if you are ready to clean up...

Thank you,

Kevin...

Thanks for the update, to clean up run the following:

Download "Delfix by Xplode" and save it to your desktop.

Or use the following if first link is down:

"Delfix link mirror"

If your security program alerts to Delfix either, accept the alert or turn your security off.

Double Click to start the program. If you are using Vista or higher, please right-click and choose run as administrator

Make Sure the following items are checked:

  • Remove disinfection tools <----- this will remove tools we may have used.
  • Purge System Restore <--- this will remove all previous and possibly exploited restore points, a new point relative to system status at present will be created.
  • Reset system settings <--- this will reset any system settings back to default that were changed either by us during cleansing or malware/infection

Now click on "Run" and wait patiently until the tool has completed.

The tool will create a log when it has completed. We don't need you to post this.

Any remnant files/logs from tools we have used can be deleted…
