MalwareBytes web protection flipping out

Recommended Posts

As of right now (2:50), I have 3,914 real-time detections and counting. I have had about 3,800 detections in the last thirty minutes. The MB notifications in the bottom right are endless and have no sign of stopping. It says stuff about riskware or whatever, and blocks perfectly normal websites and files like the internet explorer executive file and google.com. I have no idea why this is happening, but it's extremely annoying and is worrying. Especially since it's blocking Malwarebytes and Microsoft websites. AdwCleaner found nothing, and the Anti-Rootkit is currently scanning on my computer. Please help.

Nice of you to have put an incomplete fix in the other thread and then locked it.    I had rebooted my machine a dozen times trying to resolve things before I figured out what is going on.   Reboots do NOT fix the problem.

The problem is that many of us couldn't do anything when the service was running amok.   The systems wouldn't run well enough before crashing to get a browser up.

The solution is to disable the service (you can run the command "services.exe").   You may need to bring the system up in safe mode to throttle the misbehavior (it seems to still run amok in safe mode, but at a more tolerable rate).

Of coruse, with the service disabled the update procedure won't work, so you need to just uninstall the product and reinstall it.
