Web Protection Will not stay on

Recommended Posts

I am running Malwarebytes Premium

          Version 3.31.2183

          Pack version 1.0.262

          Upgrade Pack 1.03797

I too keep getting the warning Web Protection is Turned off although the other protections are shown as working.  When I attempt to turn on Web Protection, it reverts to off almost instantaneously.  Since I am already running 1.0.262,I presuming the advice given to Sorbe (December 21, 2017) does not apply.  Can you please help?

If you haven't done so already, please run these two tools and then attach the logs in your next reply:

NOTE: The tools and the information obtained is safe and not harmful to your privacy or your computer, please allow the programs to run if blocked by your system.

  • Farbar Recovery Scan Tool (FRST)
    1. Download FRST and save it to your desktop
Note: You need to run the version compatible with your system. You can check here if you're not sure if your computer is 32-bit or 64-bit
    2. Double-click to run FRST and when the tool opens click "Yes" to the disclaimer
    3. Press the "Scan" button
    4. This will produce two files in the same location (directory) as FRST: FRST.txt and Addition.txt
      • Leave the log files in the current location, they will be automatically collected by mb-check once you complete the next set of instructions
  • MB-Check
    1. Download MB-Check and save to your desktop
    2. Double-click to run MB-Check and within a few second the command window will open, press "Enter" to accept the EULA then click "OK"
    3. This will produce one log file on your desktop: mb-check-results.zip
      • This file will include the FRST logs generated from the previous set of instructions
      • Attach this file to your forum post by clicking on the "Drag files here to attach, or choose files..." or simply drag the file to the attachment area

Yeah the latest update is effectively bricking the computer...  MBAMService.exe is using up all available memory, will not take "QUIT" as quit and keeps restarting MBAM.

Serious lack of QA this morning!!!

I have the same problem.  With no scan running MB is using 20% of my CPU and 70% of my memory.  Also, real time protection will not start.  Worked fine until today.  Re-booted this moring and the problem started.

MB version: 3.3.1.2183
Component package version: 1.0.262
Update package version: 1.0.3798

Same here - if so many of us are getting this only today, it sounds like a Meltdown issue, or a virus...

I am also receiving a network error every few minutes about not being able to connect to the license server.

My screen went dark. Had to push power button down to restart the computer. My wife's system became unresponsive also.

Web Protection shuts itself off shortly after a restart of the computer and gets stuck if you request it to START.

Regged an account just to see what was up with this issue and seems I'm not the only one suffering.

Started sometime during the day as it was running fine this morning, now Real-Time protection keeps turning itself off and won't restart.

Same stuff here. And upon restart it eats all my ram and web protection isn't even gonna turn on.

What the hell is going on.

FWIW this problem just showed up on my system about an hour ago - shortly after I started it up for the first time today.

Give up hope and swap to a better anti malware platform. I've been using this software for over two years, and in the last year alone the protection turning itself off and refusing to start again issue has plagued multiple versions and everytime staff go to "help" they collect logs and tell the person to reinstall the program or use their mb-clean program to clean it, they dont actually do anything to fix the issue as they are too inexperienced or lazy, or maybe both.

There is no fix and im getting pretty pissed off that it KEEPS HAPPENING, why am i paying for subpar garbage that cant even be patched and fixed within a 12 month god damn window its a bit of a piss take if you ask me tbh.

If the problem is indeed Update package version 1.0.3798, then MB needs to push another update right now to roll it back.

I am having same issue, posted here -

This happened after I had a weird crash, unlike any I've experienced before and when my router mysteriously reset itself, something else I have never experienced, it feels to me like I was subjected to some kind of online attack, perhaps an attempt to weaken my PC's defences in preparation for another attack, these things are not unheard of.
