Would like to scan my computer but Malwarebytes is stuck at applying update

Hi,

I was downloading some rainmeter files yesterday and accidentally ended up installing a browser hijacker called hotspot shield and potentially a few other unwanted programs. As far as I can tell I removed it all manually, but I wanted to be absolutely sure so I ran Malwarebytes (premium home version). Unfortunately every time I try to run a scan it stays at "checking for updates" and does not progress any further. Not sure what to do to fix it. I attached a picture of where it stops as well. I've waited up to an hour and a half but it hasn't gone past that step.

You are using a really old version of MB,

Can you please get the build from https://downloads.malwarebytes.com/file/mb3

Run the installer on top of your existing product. You don't need to uninstall anything.

Hi,

Thanks for letting me know. I thought it was set to update automatically but I guess it wasn't updating. It confirmed my suspicions that there was still malware leftover. I quarantined and deleted everything it found, that should be sufficient correct?
