Will not open

Recommended Posts

I have seen this issue mentioned but have never seen a solution as cases were closed. I have a desktop and a laptop with Malwarebytes premium on each one. A lifetime license. When Windows updates etc. each computer will update in a few days as well. Same for this program. I have the current versions. My laptop is fine and I can open Malwarebytes and manage exclusions plus run my scans as I choose. The desktop shows this program is running and updating etc. I cannot open it either right or left click off the icon or on the taskbar. I cannot get the license info. as can't open it. I have done a Mb check and Mbcleaner then reinstalled all. I did notice the license number was preserved automatically but has since disappeared from a file that was created. Nothing has changed and I still cannot open the program. I am attaching two files as read that tends to be requested. Any idea what is going on here? I have never had an issue with either the free or current program. I will check back later today for any help given.

Thanks.

We also need ...

  1. Download FRST and save it to your desktop. Tell any program that blocks it to ignore or allow. It IS SAFE. It contains no info that can identify or harm you.
  2. NOTE: You need to run the version compatible with your system. You can check here if you're not sure if your computer is 32-bit or 64-bit
  3. Double-click to run FRST and when the tool opens click "Yes" to the disclaimer
  4. Press the "Scan" button

This will produce two files in the same location (directory) as FRST: FRST.txt and Addition.txt

Attach this file to your forum post by clicking on the "Drag files here to attach, or choose files..." or simply drag the file to the attachment area

dcollins-

It is definitely installed and running so I will do the logs again. I might have done something backward as this all new to me. I tried to open Farbar/First with 3 different browsers. All closed down the browsers. I tried 3 different sites for it and all closed the browser. I never had that happen in the past with a link etc. No way I can follow Porthos' recommendations.

Any suggestions? Thanks.

dcollins-

I tried this on various browsers but your link did not stay open and I had tried that direct site earlier. Tried from your message several times and all the same. When I did get it to download once on Chrome it starts to open then shuts down. I have tried copying and paste as well. I tried to open the Malwarebytes site for the Farbar scan tool instructions and the browsers shut down. If I try to do a restore it will not open etc. In my many years, I have never had this happen. Seems anything Malwarebytes will not open yet all continue to run per the taskbar.
I will try again later Tuesday.

Thanks.

Follow the instructions in the thread below. Make sure to download the MBAR version linked in it. Let me know if you're not able to launch it and run a scan.

If you manage to run a scan, delete everything it finds, and then copy/paste the content of the mbar-log-DATE-(TIME).txt log that is located in the MBAR folder here after.

So you know I ended up trying a program "Hitman Pro" and with a free trial, it found whatever was causing my problem. I found this through the Malwarebytes "universe" It came up when I was researching a suspicious file. I appreciate the help as never had such an issue.
