Malwarebytes, AVG wont run/scan properly

Recommended Posts

Hi-

I've acquired a bug that will not let me run malwarebytes at all or let me scan with AVG properly. I've tried renaming mbam.exe, doing scans in safe mode, reinstalling programs completely...pretty much everything that has worked for me in the past if ive acquired such an infection.

symptoms:

fake antivirus pops up

files i attempt to run like mbam.exe or add/remove hardware cause a balloon to pop up saying it may be infected

websearch redirects

pop-ups

AVG scans instantly finish (had the initial attempt go for a few minutes then freeze up)

unable to use malwarebytes

error message saying processes are infected

im not super computer savy but i usually can get myself around any sort of issue but this one is especially tricky.

thanks in advance for any help offered!

Okay do this instead:

Download DDS by sUBs and save it to your Desktop.

Double-click on the DDS icon and let the scan run. When it has run two logs will be produced, please post please post the one that is not minimized.

Next, or if that does not work, please run a GMER Rootkit scan:

Download GMER's application from here:

http://www.gmer.net/gmer.zip

Unzip it and start the GMER.exe

Click the Rootkit tab and click the Scan button.

Once done, click the Copy button.

This will copy the results to your clipboard.

Paste the results in your next reply.

Warning ! Please, do not select the "Show all" checkbox during the scan.

Next, or if that doesn't work, please download Win32kDiag.exe by AD to your Desktop. Double click on it. It will make a diagnostic and produce a report on the desktop. Post that report on your next reply:

Okay thanks for letting me know.

Please run a GMER Rootkit scan:

Download GMER's application from here:

http://www.gmer.net/gmer.zip

Unzip it and start the GMER.exe

Click the Rootkit tab and click the Scan button.

Once done, click the Copy button.

This will copy the results to your clipboard.

Paste the results in your next reply.

Warning ! Please, do not select the "Show all" checkbox during the scan.

Hi,

We need to execute an Avenger2 script.

Note to users reading this topic! This script was created specifically for the particular infection on this specific machine! If you are not this user, do NOT follow these directions as they could damage the workings of your system.

  1. Please download The Avenger2 by SwanDog46.
  2. Unzip avenger.exe to your desktop.
  3. Copy the text in the following codebox by selecting all of it, and pressing (<Control> + C) or by right clicking and selecting "Copy"
    Drivers to unload:
    zsqehjxf
    Files to Delete:
    c:\windows\system32\drivers\hxkanw.sys
    c:\windows\system32\iehelper.dll
    c:\windows\syssvc.exe
    C:\windows\system32\xa.tmp
    c:\windows\cohuroho.reg
    c:\windows\yxofipu.inf
    c:\docume~1\alluse~1\applic~1\zyxage.vbs
    c:\windows\system32\meqor.ban
    c:\windows\system32\dilomeji.scr
    c:\windows\aqusy.scr
    c:\windows\fusi.pif
    c:\windows\sujygoryw.inf
    c:\program files\common files\odapywu.dat
    c:\windows\axytubediz.dll
    c:\docume~1\alluse~1\applic~1\alowa.bin
    c:\windows\system32\Upgrd.exe
    Folders to Delete:
    c:\program files\fufagp

  4. Now start The Avenger2 by double clicking avenger.exe on your desktop.
  5. Read the prompt that appears, and press OK.
  6. Paste the script into the textbox that appears, using (<Control> + V) or by right clicking and choosing "Paste".
  7. Press the "Execute" button.
  8. You will be presented with 2 confirmation prompts. Select yes on each. Your system will reboot.
Note: It is possible that Avenger will reboot your system TWICE.
  9. Upon reboot, a command prompt window will appear on your screen for a few seconds, and then Avenger's log will open. Please paste that log here in your next post.

Next, try running ComboFix.

avenger ran and caused my system to reboot but i never saw a command prompt appear nor did a log open.

i dont know if this has any impact but some of the symptoms have changed:

-on occasion upon starting up the computer it will freeze

-i no longer have false alerts telling me .exe files are infected

-i no longer have a false anti-virus window show up

-upon start up i repeatedly recieve a google installer error

im not sure if any of that new info will help

thanks again for all the effort

See if this file exists:

C:\Avenger.txt

If so, post the contents of it.

If not, give this a try:

Please use the Internet Explorer browser and click here to use the F-Secure Online Scanner.

  • Click Start Scanning.
  • You should get a notification bar (on top) to install the ActiveX control.
  • Click on it and select to install the ActiveX.
  • Once the ActiveX is installed, you should accept the License terms by clicking OK below to start the scan.
  • In case you are having problems with installing the ActiveX/starting the scan, please read here.
  • Click the Full System Scan button.
  • It will start to download scanner components and databases. This can take a while.
  • The main scan will start.
  • Once the scan has finished scanning, click the Automatic cleaning (recommended) button
  • It could be possible that your firewall gives an alert - allow it, because that's a connection you establish to submit infected files to F-Secure.
  • The cleaning can take a while, so please be patient.
  • Then click the Show report button and Copy/Paste what is present under results in your next reply.

Next, download my Security Check from here or here.

  • Save it to your Desktop.
  • Double click SecurityCheck.exe and follow the onscreen instructions inside of the black box.
  • A Notepad document should open automatically called checkup.txt; please post the contents of that document.

Let me know how things are running now and what issues remain.

Hi,

Download RootRepeal:

http://rootrepeal.googlepages.com/RootRepeal.zip

  • Extract the archive to a folder you create such as C:\RootRepeal
  • Double-click RootRepeal.exe to launch the program (Vista users should right-click and select "Run as Administrator).
  • Click the "File" tab (located at the bottom of the RootRepeal screen)
  • Click the "Scan" button
  • In the popup dialog, check the drives to be scanned - making sure to check your primary operating system drive - normally C:
  • Click OK and the file scan will begin
  • When the scan is done, there will be files listed, but most if not all of them will be legitimate
  • Click the "Save Report" Button
  • Save the log file to your Documents folder
  • Post the content of the RootRepeal file scan log in your next reply.
