Silver_fang Posted December 12, 2017 ID:1191162 Share Posted December 12, 2017 Hiyah! I recently decided to add lines to my hosts file in order to block ads due to the fact i cant block ads via steam web browser... My question is if it's safe to do so? Everyone mentioned this guys github and his hosts files: https://github.com/StevenBlack/hosts Now, i added Unified hosts = (adware + malware) one... Should i worry about anything? I basically copy pasted everything what's inside it... Thanks in advance!
peristalsis Posted December 13, 2017 ID:1191237 Share Posted December 13, 2017 If it is any help, I use: http://winhelp2002.mvps.org/hosts.zip for the direct download and: http://winhelp2002.mvps.org for the explanations. I use their host file and NoScript..
Chirp Posted December 30, 2017 ID:1195469 Share Posted December 30, 2017 I also use my hosts file to block ad sites. I have an extensive list in the hosts file on my sons 12 and 11 year olds computer as well as blocking porn sites. Just a word though about hosts files. First make sure you mark the file read only and because I have seen hosts files changed go into the file and select deny write permissions under the system security tab in properties.
