Since yesterday web protection won't turn on.  Every few seconds I get a pop up that real time protection is off and needs to be fixed, but I can't get web protection to turn on.  I see this was a problem with an old version 3.06.  I'm running 3.3.1.2183, which should be the latest.  I tried the two suggestions anyhow about turning on enable self-protection module early start and then rebooting, which didn't fix it.  I tried turning off enable self-protection module and early start and then rebooting, with no improvement.  It's really annoying to have that pop up coming up instantly.  Between this and Chrome shutting down every time the scan runs and finds the same PUPS and quarantining them, I'm really frustrated with this latest version.  I'd love to roll it back.

Anyone have a fix for either problem

Follow the instructions in this link to clear your current problem: https://forums.malwarebytes.com/topic/214325-chrome-secure-preferences-detection-always-comes-back/

Be aware there are two posts in that thread, if the first instruction does not help move onto the second....

If that does not fix it please do the following.

Let's try and get some logs first so the team can review them and see if they can tell what may be causing your issues....

  1. FIRST: Create and obtain Farbar Recovery Scan Tool (FRST) logs
  2. Download FRST and save it to your desktop
NOTE: You need to run the version compatible with your system. You can check here if you're not sure if your computer is 32-bit or 64-bit
  3. Double-click to run FRST and when the tool opens click "Yes" to the disclaimer
  4. Press the "Scan" button
  5. This will product two files in the same location (directory) as FRST: FRST.txt and Addition.txt
NOTE: These two files will be collected by the MB-Check Tool and added to the zip file for you
  6. NEXT: Create and obtain an mb-check log
  7. Download MB-Check and save to your desktop
  8. Double-click to run MB-Check and within a few second the command window will open, then click "OK"
  9. This will produce one log file on your desktop: mb-check-results.zip
  10. Attach this file to your forum post by clicking on the "Drag files here to attach, or choose files..." or simply drag the file to the attachment area

 "controllers_version" : "1.0.0",

Can you try installing the latest 3.3.1 over your existing product and let me know if that worked.

Just download the latest installer from : https://downloads.malwarebytes.org/file/mb3

Run the installer on top of your existing product. No need to uninstall. Restart after.

Also

I would like you to add these files to your Anti-Virus exclusions list as mentioned in this FAQ HERE (my list below includes the exe files as well)

  • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes\Anti-Malware\assistant.exe
  • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes\Anti-Malware\malwarebytes_assistant.exe
  • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes\Anti-Malware\mbam.exe
  • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes\Anti-Malware\MbamPt.exe
  • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes\Anti-Malware\MBAMService.exe
  • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes\Anti-Malware\mbamtray.exe
  • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes\Anti-Malware\MBAMWsc.exe
  • C:\Windows\system32\Drivers\farflt.sys
  • C:\Windows\System32\drivers\mbae64.sys
  • C:\Windows\System32\drivers\mbam.sys
  • C:\Windows\System32\drivers\MBAMChameleon.sys
  • C:\Windows\System32\drivers\MBAMSwissArmy.sys
  • C:\Windows\System32\drivers\mwac.sys

It worked!!  Everything's fine now.  Now I remember having to do this in the past whenever there's been a major software update.  The files to be excluded change and I have to update them.  I've run those diagnostic programs before too.  It would be helpful if they provided a list of new list of exclusions when they change so we could automatically go update them in our antivirus software.

I think the other problem is fixed too.  I just ran the scan again and it didn't find the PUPS.

Thanks so much for your help!!  You're the best!

  • 1 month later...

I'm experiencing the same issue.  Just started today (1/27/2018).  Web Protection Won't Turn On Message - service appears to hang.  Tried to uninstall, but uninstall process hangs up.  Downloaded latest 3.31 version and attempted to installed - that hangs as well.  Appreciate any help on this.

Checked Task Manager - MBAM service shows, Stopping - it stays in that state.  Never stops.

I have the same thing happening. Is it bring your computer to a crawl?

Malwarebytes is taxing my computer in Taskmanager. This is happening on two computers on my network. I thought I had been attacked by something. But I'm crossing my fingers it was just a corrupted update from Malwarebytes.

Having the exact same problem as the past few posters. Started a couple of hours ago, seemingly out of the blue.

MBAM starts with web protection disabled after a computer restart. If I attempt to enable it, it never starts, GUI indicates it as stuck in "starting". At that point the MBAM service starts consuming memory until it exhausts all the available memory.

I have added the suggested exceptions SEP and rebooted.

I have downloaded the clean tool and completely removed MBAM and gone through that process (2 times).

I'm attaching the logs collected as instructed in the earlier post.

I had the same problem this morning.

Here's what I did since it was also eating up my Ram memory and CPU usage causing slow responses and system crash.

Open MwB, tick off "turn on MwB at windows startup. Reboot pc

my pc was responsive again. I then opened Mwb, with the Real Time Web Protection mode off, I turned off the "Self-Protection"option.

Then turned on the RTWProtection button and it worked, then I proceeded to turn on the "Self-Protecion" option.

besides above, MB's update needed to address problem ver. Update package version 1.0.3803 or higher contains the fix
