Google PUPS persist

Recommended Posts

I too Have recurrent PUPS based on Google  and have tried all the suggestions by Meiklmoes and Aura above. I have no wish to complicate this topic and will await any outcome that arises. I have updated MBAM to 3.3 and have moved all the sync everything switches to the left. I have also removed all the data in Manage Synced Data on Google Dashboard and removed all the other browsers. I have not yet tried the FRST option above and will await the outcome of OG95 to see if that works.

I am not sure but this happened at or shortly after upgrading from MBAM 3.2 to 3.3. This may be coincidental as others have noted the PUPS problem with 3.2.

Hello, I have been plagued by persistant Google PUPS as follows. Ask, Conduit (2 cases), Delta. Default search ShrEln and Linkury. I notice that I am not the only one with this problem and I think that it started around the time that I upgraded to MBAM 3.3.1.2183 Component package 1.0.236 Update package 1.0.3273 but that may be erroneus. Neverthe less I have selected to automatically download and install application updates. I have followed the fortunes of others and the recommended solutions so far without success.

From the last topic by OG95 Aura had advised that FRST should be run but as that has not happened yet I thought that having tried meiklemoes solution I would run FRST. I have attached the relevant scans to this topic. As I run 24/7 and do an MBAM threat scan once every day this annoying set of PUPs means that I have to reboot every morning quarantine them and delete them from quarantine. I have another pc that uses Chrome and I have followed meiklemoes remedies in that one.

I offer my thanks in advance to all who can offer help with this. John

Hi Aura, yes I did delete all the other search engines.

I think that I have fixed it. I noticed that the PUPs came from C;\users\user which was a legacy from an earlier version of Windows my current one being C:\users\john. After a bit of malware was creating havoc I reinstalled windows 10 and I think that that was the source of the legacy account.

I took my courage in my hands and deleted most of the former especially the appdata. Once I did this and rescanned with MBAM I got a clean scan. I do hope that I haven't deleted something important but the PUPs were getting really annoying me.I don't know why this didn't happen with 3.2 but did with 3.3 but maybe 3.3 was being more thorough.

I will post again tomorrow to confirm that this is a solution and that the topic can be closed. I thank you and your colleagues as I am sure that reading all the other posts gave me a clue about this.

John

You can delete the whole userprofile if you don't need it anymore.

And it happened because a lot of detection for Google Chrome were added last week to Malwarebytes' database.
