Real-time protection won't run

Recommended Posts

My real-time protection stopped running and I cannot turn Web Protection, Exploit Protection, Malware Protection, or Ransomware Protection back on.  I've removed my existing version of Malware Bytes Premium and reloaded vers. 3.3.1.2183 via USB (downloaded from another computer) via Safe Mode.  I have scanned for threats 3 times plus used Hitman Pro and came up with zero "threats".  I am still in safemode and have tried the various techniques to get Real-Time Protection back on by 1)enabling self-protection early start & rebooting (unsuccessful), 2) disabling self-protection mode & rebooting (unsuccessful), 3) delaying real-time protection by 60 sec and rebooting (unsuccessful).  What else can I do to get it turned back on?  I have also tried to load via USB two other types of malware removal software, but it won't allow me to do so without internet access for some reason.  Any thoughts?  I'm hesitant to get out of SafeMode until I can get the real time protection up and running.

...I'll retry toggling on Real-Time protection in normal mode, that is....last time I tried that (prior to scanning in Safemode) it didn't work, but I was still getting 5 PUPs showing up.

Alright, let me know how it goes. If it is having issues, submit the requested logs and I will look over them to get a better idea of what is happening.

Thank you

Woohoo!  Back in "normal mode" and all systems go! Thanks for letting me know that they wouldn't work in SafeMode.  Loading a new version of Malwarebytes while in SafeMode removed the malware that had disabled my real-time protection, but it was confusing since it still appeared as if the Real-time protection was still unavailable.

No problem--lesson learned to the computer illiterate.  Just pleased that it worked the way it was supposed to since I was worried I had a bigger problem and one that would be well beyond my technical abilities, which are pretty limited to begin with.  Thanks for your help :-).

I'm having the same problem.  But I've never been in Safe mode.  I got everything to work, but Ransomware Protection will not start.  It hangs on Starting...

Let's try and get some logs first so the team can review them and see if they can tell what may be causing your issues....

  1. FIRST: Create and obtain Farbar Recovery Scan Tool (FRST) logs
  2. Download FRST and save it to your desktop
NOTE: You need to run the version compatible with your system. You can check here if you're not sure if your computer is 32-bit or 64-bit
  3. Double-click to run FRST and when the tool opens click "Yes" to the disclaimer
  4. Press the "Scan" button
  5. This will product two files in the same location (directory) as FRST: FRST.txt and Addition.txt
NOTE: These two files will be collected by the MB-Check Tool and added to the zip file for you
  6. NEXT: Create and obtain an mb-check log
  7. Download MB-Check and save to your desktop
  8. Double-click to run MB-Check and within a few second the command window will open, then click "OK"
  9. This will produce one log file on your desktop: mb-check-results.zip
  10. Attach this file to your forum post by clicking on the "Drag files here to attach, or choose files..." or simply drag the file to the attachment area
